Kumbhanda is a unique boss that can be found in two different locations inside Katayama's Palace in Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X). Check out the essential details, including the unique battle details for each fight, Kumbhanda's weaknesses and resistances, as well as the best team composition here.
| Enemy Level | Lv. 74 |
|---|---|
| Recommended Level | Lv. 77 |
| Safer Recommended Level | Lv. 80 |
The Kumbhanda fight recommends players to tackle this boss with a team that is at least Level 70. However, as the enemies in Katayama's Palace have had a difficulty spike with no level scaling, we highly recommend you get Wonder's teammates to Level 80.
At this point of the game, a player should be having well-built characters and team comps, and have kept them ready for battle. Leveling their skills to leveling Revelation Cards is absolutely crucial. Be properly leveled, equipped and prepared first before tackling this boss.

There are two locations where Hariti can be spotted in Katayama's Palace. Each one has a different ally for Kumbhanda, and that means different mechanics for each fight.
It is highly recommended to clear Chapter 3 Phase 1 of the story, so that players can fully tour around Katayama's Palace to find the Kumbhanda boss fights.

✓ Both Fights Have Agathion as Their Ally ✓ Manage Grudge Stacks ✓ Kumbhanda Will Attack Those w/ Grudge Stacks ✓ Kumbhanda Steals Max HP or SP for Agathion |

In both versions of the Kumbhanda fight, he will have an Agathion as an ally opponent. Both versions of the fight have almost the same mechanics, with Kumbhanda applying Grudge stacks as the crucial fights.
Whenever Agathion attacks, the Phantom Thief will be applied with a stack of Grudge. This stack will also last for 1 turn, and can be cleansed through items or with Marian's heal.
Those that have Grudge Stacks will be targeted by Kumbhanda. Consider the stack as some sort of lock on for Kumbhanda.
If there are no Grudge stacks when Kumbhanda is about to launch his attack, he will launch an AoE attack that targets everyone.
You can use this to your advantage, with characters like Soy and Fox having their own taunt effects to redirect attacks to themselves.
Depending on which version of the Kumbhada boss fight you encounter, his attacks will steal your allies' SP or max HP and will give it to Kumbhanda to be used for their attacks or survivability.

As of writing, this might be the strongest team a player can build in the game right now. Queen can nuke just about any enemy that does not nullfy Nuke damage outright, and all she needs is for herself or for Vino to apply Elemental Ailments to proc her additional damage.
Then comes the addition of Chord, who will let her make use of Highlights more frequently. Phoebe will then boost Nuke damage as a pseudo-mono-Nuclear team composition.

A separate team comp would be to play into Kumbhanda's weakness to Ice and Agathion's weakness to Wind. Mont and Fleuret will be the main damage dealers, both Assassins that can deal unexpectedly massive damage shoudl they have enough Awareness Levels.
Soy will act as the team's tank and healer, supported with Puppet's shield-stacking ability. This lets Wonder be a more flexibile ally, being either a secondary Medic, a Saboteur or a third damage dealer.

Make sure that your team is not under-leveled and under-equipped. Make sure to have your Phantom Thieves at least around the Minimum or Recommended Level for the boss fight.
Leveling Guide: How to Level Up Fast

Before you head into the fight, remember to adjust your team comp properly as well as their turn order! The game will even bring you to the Team screen just before the boss fight properly begins.
Make sure to bring the right people for the job. Otherwise, the fight will be a lot harder before you realize you are using the wrong team.

Before you go into the fight, you could consume some of the home cooking Wonder makes in the kitchen. The food he makes will grant the team some buffs that will last for a certain number of battles. These include boss fights like in the Palace or in Mementos!
