How to Unlock The Realm of Fog

The Realm of Fog starts after picking up a piece of the Nilfheim Cipher.

There are more than four chests containing the Nilfheim Cipher but only four are required to complete the favor.

The Realm of Fog Quest Walkthrough

Head to the Ruins of the Ancient

GoW - Heading to the Ruins of the Ancient

	Objectives
1	Head to the Ruins of the Ancient northwest of the Lake of Nine.
2	Jump over the ledge and pick up the treasure map. Note: You can find an optional boss fight with a Soul Devourer in the area.
3	Head right and open the chest containing a piece of the Niflheim Cipher.

Head to the Lookout Tower

GoW - Heading to the Lookout Tower

4	Head to the Lookout Tower southeast of the Lake of Nine.
5	Defeat the Nightmares that appear. Hit the mechanism on the left side near the cliff wall to deactivate the spikes on the other side of the shore.
6	Head down the shore to find a chest blocked by spikes.
7	Hit the mechanism to deactivate the spikes on the chest. Open the chest to obtain a piece of the Niflheim Cipher.

Head to The Mason's Channel

8	Head to the entrance of The Mason's Channel and dock your boat on the shore next to the rightmost boatman statue.
9	Destroy the crystals and climb the ledges.
10	Climb to the top and look down to your right to find Shattering Crystals next to the rubble.
11	Climb down and open the chest to find a piece of the Niflheim Cipher.

Head to The Mountain

12	After reaching the summit in Return to the Summit, you can find a chest containing a piece of the Niflheim Cipher.

Head to Tyr's Temple

13	After reaching the two spike hallways on the right chain in A Path to Jotunheim, you can find a chest containing a piece of the Niflheim Cipher at the end of the area. You can also find another Niflheim chest at the end of the left chain's spike hallways.

Head Inside The World Serpent

GoW - World Serpent Entrance

14	After retrieving Mimir's Eye inside the World Serpent during the Jotunheim in Reach quest, turn left from the chest and jump to the nearby platform. Find and open the chest to obtain a piece of the Niflheim Cipher. Note: This Niflheim Cipher chest is permanently missable once you exit the serpent.

Head to the Realm Travel Room

GoW - Realm Travel Room

15	Once you have all four ciphers, head to the Realm Travel Room in Try's Temple.
16	Select Niflheim to travel there.
17	Enter Niflheim to complete the favor.
