How to Unlock Leviathan Axe Skills

The Leviathan Axe is one of Kratos's starting weapons and can be unlocked right at the first chapter of the story, The Marked Trees. The skill trees for the Leviathan Axe will also be available at this point.

Skill Weapon Lv. Effect
Freezing ThrowFreezing Throw 1 Aim and Press R2 for a powerful attack that freezes smaller enemies for a short duration and inflicts heavy damage to all enemies.
Freezing BurstFreezing Burst 2 Aim and Hold R2 to charge up the Leviathan Axe and cause an explosion on impact that inflicts FROST damage.
Precision Throw ComboPrecision Throw Combo 2 After landing a precision axe throw (weak points and headshots), Press △ during the flash to recall the Leviathan Axe and cause the next throw or melee attack to explode on contact, inflicting FROST damage.
Precision Frost BurstPrecision Frost Burst 3 Precision Throw Combo now creates a massive explosion on impact.
Hunter-Killer IHunter-Killer I 3 Aim and Hold R1 to select 3 targets on a single enemy or across 3 separate enemies.
Hunter-Killer IIHunter-Killer II 4 Increases the maximum number of targets to 5.
Hunter-Killer IIIHunter-Killer III 5 Increases the maximum number of targets to 8.
Returning WhirlwindReturning Whirlwind 4 While Bare-Handed, aim and Press R1 to instantly recall the Leviathan Axe and perform a powerful spinning attack.
Returning StormReturning Storm 5 While Bare-Handed, aim and Press R2 to instantly recall the Leviathan Axe and perform a powerful slam attack.

ExecutionerExecutioner's Cleave 1 Hold R2 for a brutal cleaving axe attack that deals massive damage.
Grinding StormGrinding Storm 1 Hold R1 for an axe attack that hits enemies multiple times and locks them down.
Pride of the FrostPride of the Frost 1 A Heavy Attack Finisher at the end of the Light Attack Combo. Press R1, R1, R1, R2 to perform.
PermafrostPermafrost 2 Perform attacks in quick succession without sustaining damage to power up the Leviathan Axe and inflict FROST damage on every hit.
Whirling StormWhirling Storm 2 While evading, Hold L forward and Press R1 to perform a quick axe attack.
Frost RushFrost Rush 2 While sprinting, Press R1 to perform a leaping attack.
Glacial PermafrostGlacial Permafrost 3 Increases the amount of Permafrost gained on every successful axe hit.
Evasive StormEvasive Storm 3 While evading, Hold L back and Press R1 to perform a quick boomerang throw.
LeviathanLeviathan's Fury 3 While sprinting, Press R2 to perform a massive leaping attack.
Whirlwind SweepWhirlwind Sweep 4 Switch stances by pausing momentarily after any Leviathan Axe attack. Once in new stance, Press R1 to perform a sweeping attack.
Double WhirlwindDouble Whirlwind 4 Unlock a second, follow-up R1 combo attack while in the switched stance.
Whirlwind ThrowWhirlwind Throw 4 Switch stances by pausing momentarily after any Leviathan Axe attack. Once in new stance, Press R2 to perform a ranged attack.
Raging WhirlwindRaging Whirlwind 5 Unlock a third and final R1 attack while in the switched stance.
Whirlwind FuryWhirlwind Fury 5 Switch stances by pausing momentarily after any Leviathan Axe attack. Once in new stance, Press R2, R2 to perform a heavy ranged combo.
