Valkyries are warrior spirits of women who choose to serve Valhalla by separating the worthy souls of entering the legendary hall from those that walk the cold stones of Helheim. Each Valkyrie are repsented by helmed women bearing wings they use in battle and to take flight.
Valkyries are generally the last things you'll wish to fight in God of War. They are difficult battles that requires some of the best gear available in the game, along with the appropriate upgrades to your weapons and Runes. It is important to master key elements of the game, such as knowing signs of attack and dodging/parrying.
Although found in locked Hidden Chambers of Odin, Odin himself did not put them there. Instead, their Queen Sigrun locked away these Valkyries due to the violent nature of their physical forms. As soon as you unlock a piece of the Magic Chisel in the main story, you will be able to come at each Valkyrie for a fight.
