Spiky Ground first shows up in the Whispering Woods of Paper Mario: The Origami King for Nintendo Switch. Getting past the spkiy ground will give you access to treasure chests and blocked off sections, but you will first have to find a way to walk over it without taking damage.
List of Contents
After you walk past the first couple of spiky ground areas, you will eventually some across come across some trees with vines on them. Go the second vine from the left and pull it, which will cause several large leaves to fall down.
The leaves will lay across the ground and create a Memory Game, where hitting a leaf will flip it over and reveal the symbol on the other side. Flipping over two of the same symbols will cause those two leaves to disappear. Repeat this until you match up all pairs.

You have unlimited tries, so don't worry about getting the wrong pairs. After finally matching them all up, a Starman will appear.

After picking up the Starman thart appears, you will be invincible, so you can now travel across any of the spiky ground that you've seen.
If you go back to the spiky ground and walk to the left over the spikes while Mario is still invincible, you can reach a chest with Collectible Treasure No. 1, Peach's Castle. Just be careful, because the invincibility has a time limit, and the memory game does not come back!
