Boss Battle Guide: How to Beat Gooper Blooper

This is a walkthrough for beating Gooper Blooper, one of the bosses in Paper Mario: The Origami King for the Nintendo Switch. This guide will cover boss strategy, the best weapons to use, as well as other tips and tricks for beating Gooper Blooper.

Gooper Blooper Walkthrough

Phase 1

Gooper Blooper is really more of a mini-boss, and unlike other bosses, it is fought in real-time, as opposed to the Ring Puzzle battle. Therefore, the only weapon you will have at your disposal is Mario's trusty hammer.

In the first part of the battle, you will want to dodge the Blooper's tentacle attacks, jump over the waves that come from them, then move in and press B to hit them with your hammer before it raises it back up. Hit three tentacles, then Gooper Blooper will fire its ink onto the deck. The ink will slow Mario down, so avoid stepping it or he will be more vulnerable to be hit by other attacks.

At this point, it will begin hitting more rapidly. Break all four tentacles, then the Blooper will jump onto the deck.

Once the Blooper jumps onto the deck, it will strike the ground with its two front tentacles and send out waves, then shoot out ink. Dodge both attacks, and wait for it to charge up and spin around.

After spinning around, it will send out a series of waves in front of it, then become dizzy. Jump over the waves and move in, approach the Blooper, and strike its body with your hammer.

You will need to repeat this and hit the Blooper a total of five times to defeat it and end the battle.

Gooper Blooper Tips and Strategy

Dodging the Waves

When the Blooper strikes the ground with its tentacles, it sends out waves that extend in a circle from where the ground was struck. With this in mind, lure the tentacle into striking a spot, back up, hop over the wave, and move in quickly to attack with your hammer.

Avoid the Ink

After the Blooper shoots ink, it will remain on the ground temporarily. Walking on it is slippery and slows Mario down, so try and jump over it.
