List of Contents
This battle is another mini-boss battle that happens in real time, rather than in a ring-battle. This paper mache enemy is composed of four spherical segments, and you must destroy the bottom three in order to reach its head.
In order to destroy each segment, you need to dodge its movements, then wait for it to fall down. When it does, you'll need to approach the bottom segment, then destroy it with your hammer, or by ramming into it with the boot car. In order to do this, you attack needs to be well placed, avoiding the spikes, and hitting it when it changes to brown.
Although you can use your hammer to smash each segment, the easiest method of getting through this boss is to just drive around in the Boot Car and wait until Giant Pokey falls, then run into it from the bottom-most part of the sphere. This will work for the first three segments. Be sure and dodge any movements from Pokey or tornados that appear.
Once Pokey has been reduced to just a head, you should approach it, get out of the car, and then wait until it is about to go back underground. When it does, quickly make your way to the top of its head, and hit it with your hammer to land the final blow.
Each time you break one of Giant Pokey's spherical segments off, it will leave behind a pile of red paper. Get close enough to it for Mario to pick it all up, and you'll be able to restore your HP!
If your car gets blown away by the tornados, have no fear! You can call for it to come back by opening up your item menu and using the Boot Whistle.
