“I, Asahi, shall protect you, my princess. Even if it means my death!”- Asahi
Princess Kaguya has faced countless assassination attempts throughout her life.
Each time, a shadow
dies protecting her. The princess has become emotionally hardened by this, believing her life is far more valuable than any shadow's.
A new shadow named Asahi arrives, disrupting the princess's cold routine. Unlike past shadows, Asahi smiles and treats the princess with a surprising level of familiarity. This throws the princess off balance, but she starts to find Asahi's genuine kindness intriguing.
The princess contemplates allowing Asahi to call her by name, a privilege usually forbidden to shadows. However, Asahi refuses, insisting on the princess-shadow hierarchy. This unexpected act of loyalty and Asahi's unwavering devotion leave the princess confused and strangely upset.
“All live and die...as I so desire...!”- Kaguya
The princess, Kaguya, wrestles with grief after her loyal shadow Asahi dies. Initially clinging to her belief of being irreplaceable, Kaguya crumbles and desires Asahi's return. A tempting voice fuels her desperation, granting Asahi's revival in exchange for Kaguya embracing her special
status.
Blinded by grief, Kaguya drains the life force of her people, only to be horrified by the suffering she caused. This experience shatters her cold exterior, revealing a deep longing for genuine connection. Miraculously revived, Asahi calls out to Kaguya, not as a princess, but by her name. Embracing responsibility, Kaguya sheds her princess persona and chooses to live alongside Asahi, simply as Kaguya.
Hiding behind a mask of stoicism and composure, she grapples with deep loneliness and a longing for connection, restricted by her royal status. Despite a harsh upbringing, she possesses a compassionate heart, evident in her care for Asahi. However, guilt over pushing her away and the devastation of her homeland burdens her. Yet, beneath the surface lies a strong will. As she sheds her title, embracing a new life as simply Kaguya
.
Due to Lady Kagura's status and situation, Lady Kaguya do not have a lot of connection aside from Asahi who was persistent in protecting her. This is due to most shadows who were employed to protect Lady Kagura died protecting her, and were seen as dispensable.
Chapter 1 |
---|
"I don't want to die..." Once those words left the lips of that "shadow," she drew her final breath. ...This time 'twas poison... Since I was born, there hath been countless attempts on my life. And each time, there hath been someone who died in my stead. In my youth, the deaths of servants would at times unsettle my heart. But now, not one emotion stirs within me. Of course, such is the way. The duty of my shadows is to keep me alive, while surviving peril is mine. Therefore, I alone must continue to live. Whosever life be sacrificed... I alone... |
Chapter 2 |
---|
I am special. Thus, I possess servants called shadows. Not all lives bear the same value. I stand without equal, and my shadows are but dispensable. Verily, my life far outweighs theirs. Then one day, a new shadow was brought before me... "I, Asahi, shall protect you, my princess. Even if it means my death!" This lowly shadow dared address me with a smile. Acting as if I were but some ordinary person. "'Tis disrespectful," I soon reprimanded her. Yet, that smile of hers did not fade away. A most peculiar servant indeed. She was the first to introduce herself to me by name. ...Asahi, was it? To give her name to me without a trace of fear... Verily, an unexpected simpleton hath arrived... |
Chapter 3 |
---|
Asahi was more peculiar than I had anticipated. She smiles no matter what I decree... And even when I try to act as a princess, being in her presence somehow throws me into disarray. However, this upsets me not. Ah, yes. I shall try my hand at granting Asahi the privilege to call me by name. In truth, such an act is unforgivable, but this is Asahi. At this moment in time, not a soul will be concerned. Then, Asahi and I will form a link even stronger than that of a mere shadow and princess... "I must refuse, my princess. ...For I am but a shadow." She smiled in reply, though tinged with unease. Ah, I see. In Asahi's eyes, I am nothing more than her master. Hm. Why doth this vex me now...? Have I not known this all along? I am above all lowly shadows. And yet...why do I feel such pain in my heart...? |
Chapter 4 |
---|
“There are countless replacements for every shadow, are there not?" It suddenly felt as if someone whispered such words into mine ear. ...Verily. My life doth far outweigh that of any shadow. To Asahi, I am the Princess. Nothing more, nothing less. Soon thereafter, something happened. The news of Asahi's death had reached mine ears. After she and an assassin struck each other down, Asahi then... My other servants led me from my chamber to see Asahi's lifeless body, yet I was unable to even lay a finger on it. That day marked the first time I had ever wept for a shadow. |
Chapter 5 |
---|
Why am I trembling? Is this not how things hath always been? Someone protects me, then dies. Should I not be accustomed to such a sight? 'Tis times like these when I must act like a princess... But, what doth it even mean to act like a princess? That 'tis unbefitting to feel sorrow upon someone's death? No. The only thing that was unbefitting was me. Every life bears the same value, each one irreplaceable. Asahi...every shadow who hath gone... nothing can replace them! And yet...I...! "...I long to see thee again, Asahi." "Then, why not let her come back to life?" In that moment, I heard someone whisper into mine ear once more. "You are special. That's something you're allowed to do." Verily. I am special. All in this world exists for me! All live and die...as I so desire...! |
Chapter 6 |
---|
The lives of my subjects belong to me. 'Tis for mine own sake that they live and die. If so it be, there should be no issue if I decide even when one lives or dies. I shall not let thee die, Asahi. Do not dare think of dying without my permission. As such... "Each and every one of thee shall bequeath your lives unto Asahi." If I could slowly drain tiny slivers of life from many a person, and channel it to Asahi... Then, as if responding to my desire, a fog enshrouds the land, and begins draining the life from my subjects. With this much, it shall amount to Asahi's life... Suddenly...voices crying out in pain reach mine ears. Voices begging to be saved. Why do they sound so pained? I am taking but tiny slivers... "Save me... Please don't take my life away...Princess..." As the countless pleas resound in mine ears, I hear that whisper once more. "This is what you wished for, isn't it?" Verily... I did wish for this... What would befall the lives of others mattered not to me. What...have I done...? |
Chapter 7 |
---|
My mind sank into the dark abyss. Many have perished to keep me alive. 'Tis my duty to bear the weight of those lives, and live on in solitude. Hence, I convinced myself that I was special. To flee from the responsibility of bearing such a heavy burden. Yet...the moment I met Asahi, I felt my heart tremble. Much like everyone else, I long for someone I can live with. I wish they see me not as special, but simply as me. Someone who calls my name, and...! "Lady Kaguya!!" In that moment, a voice reached mine ears. A voice that calls not for the Princess, but for me. This voice is... "I shall live by your side simply as Asahi! So, please come back to me... LADY KAGUYA!" Golden hues of light melt away the darkness, guiding me back to reality. There is but one I know who can perform such a feat. The one whose unceasing noise has brightened my world ever so vibrantly. My sunshine. Yet... "As the one who willed mine own country's destruction, I can no longer call myself a princess... However..." Asahi then smiled as she had done when we first met, dispelling my lingering anxieties, and spoke. "Yes. From now, till forever. I shall dedicate my life to you... Lady Kaguya." If I have compelled thee to speak so, then I must assume responsibility. From now, till forever, I, too, shall be at thy side. Not as a princess, but simply as Kaguya. |
Login 1 | For mine own sake, I entreat thee to strive yet again today. |
---|---|
Login 2 | Verily, the prodigal one hath finally returned... Pray tell, whither didst thou go after leaving me behind? ...Do not dare flee! Kneel before me at once!! |
Home 1 | Thou art too carefree in my presence. Pray, who dost thou take me for? ...'Tis disrespectful. |
Home 2 | ...Why dost thou look so surprised? Is it perchance thy first time seeing shikigami? Hmmm... Well, I suppose I should enlighten thee... These creatures move by my power, silent familiars they are. They can only perform simple tasks, such as the delivering of messages...but should they capture thy interest, I am not averse to bestowing one unto thee. |
Home 3 | Attending those of noble standing, such as I, are special servants called shadows. Their devotion lasts until death, when they sacrifice their own lives to ensure their masters retain theirs... Asahi is my shadow...but in mine eyes, she is more like... |
Home 4 | Hm? Why dost thou keep working despite thy fatigue? 'Tis folly to overexert thyself. Understand? Then, take thy rest at once. I grant thee my permission. |
Home 5 | Verily, thou dost serve me well. Though, 'tis not out of respect or fear... C-Could it be, thou hast feelings for me...?! Ahem... S-So I see... I believe thee to be of merit... but forgive me. I cannot requite thy feelings... Hm? Pray tell, just what is that stupefaction written across thy face? |
Home 6 | Today is thy birthday, is it not? So, that is why thou hast come to me seeking words of commendation. Yes, yes, I understand... 'Tis for an honorable cause. Henceforth, I entreat thee to strive for excellence for mine own sake... Well? Hath my words sent thee soaring above the clouds? Verily, it was I who uttered those words, after all. Thou may boast about this to everyone to thy heart's content. |
Home 7 | Asahi! ...Whither hath that girl gone off to? What? She hath set out into those city streets outside on some errand of thine? Know this—Asahi is my shadow. And even Asahi, to think she would leave without my permission... Hm? She hath gone to buy sweets for me? ...! I-I shall make an exception just this once! |
Home 8 | My country is rich in myths from the olden times, but amongst them, a tale of a fox hath long been loved by the people. ’Tis said that long ago...there existed a fox that caused nothing but mischief, and it was vanquished by mine ancestor... But, that fox’s mischief is greatly amusing... Next we speak, I shall regale thee with every single detail. |
Home 9 | None but the one destined to join me in wedlock may call me by name... Not even mine own relatives are allowed that privilege. Hence, um... Asahi calling me by name is a secret that must be guarded from everyone else! Verily, even I have dignity to uphold... Understood? |
Home 10 | ...Oh, the boredom... Hm? OH, ’tis thee, and what perfect timing! Bid Asahi to prepare sweets at once. And then, might we have Aine the musician perform for us...? Wear not that look on thy face. Thou art welcome to request a portion of sweets for thyself. I grant thee my permission... To enjoy sweets while the melodies of the harp fill the air. Nothing proves more apt for times of boredom. We must make our time spent worthwhile, after all. |
Home 11 | That entity you all call a demon...what in the world was that? Its very existence felt hollow, and as uncertain as a dream. Yet, it certainly did exist...as if born from mine own desires... Even now, it seems to be lurking in the shadows of my heart... ’Tis unsettling... |
Home 12 | Many have wrought sins, fettering themselves to their pasts. Some bear those burdens as they try to move forward. Some wear smiles despite bearing the deepest of scars. Thine allies are strong. I wonder if I, too, can face mine own sins, bear them, and live on... No, I must bear them. So long as there are those at my side who still call me Princess...I shall not bring shame unto them... Such is how I handle my responsibilities. |
Awakening 1 | Hehe! Do as thou deem fit. |
Awakening 2 | Thou hast done the honorable. I shall reward thee. |
Awakening 3 | Do continue thy offerings unto me. Thou shalt be recompensed lavishly. |
Awakening 4 | Doth my eyes see a dream or reality? For if I believe not in a dream, it manifests unto reality... I am the noble moon who reigns over the night, for my majestic moonlight engulfs even the brightest of starlight... Shouldst thou find thyself lost in thy dreams, remember me. For no matter how dark thy dreams may be...I shall light thy way. |
Awakening 5 | Thou hast served me well till this day. ’Tis only fitting that I recompense thee, I suppose... If there is anything thou desires, tell me and ’tis thine. Ah... Thou, however, appears to be a selfless soul... Very well. I shall decide. Take this—an origami crane crafted by mine own hands. Thou may cherish it as a family heirloom. |
Awakening 6 | Thou hast helped Asahi and my subjects, then saved me. Such was an act of profound honor... No, at times like this, I must speak unto you all as equals... I thank thee. Unlike me, thou dost not possess desires tainted by greed. ’Tis for that reason that everyone gathers around thee... I, too, must become one whom others gather around, much like thee... |
Victory | Hehe...! That was honorable, everyone. I commend you all. |
Defeat | Kn-Knaves! You all shalt be executed for this. Executed, I say! |
Skill 1 | It seems thou requires punishment. |
Skill 2 | Know how inferior thou art! |
Skill 1 (Enraged) | Tis I who is special! |
Skill 2 (Enraged) | I care not for what befalls anyone else! |
