A girl who lives alone in a forest within the Principality of Brook. She has never been seen by anyone, causeing the townspeople to fearfully call her The Witch of the Deep Forest.
Merlyn has spent a long time living in solitude, and would love nothing more than to connect with other people.

Merlyn was a witch who had been abandoned in a forest. She was taken in by an unnamed witch who took her in as her apprentice. There, she received a new name and learned how to use her magical powers.
Merlyn loved her master a lot. She appreciated Merlyn's efforts and never failed to make her feel welcome. That was why when her master's birthday was about to come, Merlyn tried hard to make her happy by gifting her something that couldn't be found in the forest where they lived.
Remembering that her master was pleased about the flowers Merlyn had created with her magic, she tried to make some again. However, her magic suddenly went on a rampage and threatened to kill her on the spot. But right in the nick of time, her master came to her rescue...
... At the cost of her life.
Hmm? Why I call you Mister Apprentice? W-Well... that's because... uhh... D-Do you not like it? S-Should I call you something like... m-my b-bro...?- Merlyn
Ever since that day, Merlyn's magic has often gone out of control. This was especially true whenever she recalled the time she accidentally killed her master. It caused her to shut herself away from the world despite her longing for companionship.
One day, that longing was finally fulfilled. A traveler, the Duke, came upon her home in the forest. Utterly clueless on how to treat someone else, Merlyn decided to call him Apprentice, even though there were other, more appropriate names she could have used.
Regardless of their strange meeting, Merlin found comfort and courage in her companionship with the Duke; in him, she saw the strength to move forward from her bitter past.
Merlyn has a kind and nurturing personality inherited from her late master. She often fusses over the development and health of those around her, notably the Duke. Whether this is how her fear of losing her companions manifests is difficult to ascertain, but she is often wracked with anxiety about the thought of becoming alone.
At the same time, she is very socially awkward. This is easily apparent from her unease when presented with the opportunity to make friends. She also knows very little about society at large, such as what can be given as gifts or how to start conversations.
Merlyn is also somewhat haunted by the fact that she calls the Duke "Apprentice;" a nickname that veritably didn't fit him. Sometimes, she would shyly ask if he could become her real apprentice to dispel the awkwardness of it all. And on other times, she would just bring up the topic of changing how she would refer to him, albeit using even more perplexing terms.

| “Good job, Merlyn.” My master was someone that always complimented me. She took me in after I had been abandoned, and gave me a new name. Everything I know about magic, I learned from her—a beautiful, kind witch, who baked the best pumpkin pies. When I gifted her flowers I had bloomed with my magic for the first time, she complimented me with the brightest smile on her face. I was so flattered, it made me want to practice even harder. |

| My master’s birthday was fast approaching. I wanted to get a present for her, but things from the forest won’t do— they’re all too familiar to her. After all, she’s the one who knows this place best. So I racked my brain for hours trying to find a good idea. That’s it! The flowers that I bloomed with my magic! She loved those! It’ll be perfect! I’ll bloom lots of flowers and give her a bouquet for her birthday! With that in mind, I closed my eyes and concentrated on my magic. |
