The Start — And End Of A Legend

Now, it's time for my legend to begin!

Claudia born to a clan of prominent swordmasters. As someone who looked up to the founder, Claudia wanted nothing more but to exceed their legend. To that end, she trained hard and, through her efforts and talent, managed to master their sword style faster than the founder.

Her hard work paid off and she was named the head of their family and received their heirloom: the Twin Dragon swords. At such a young age, she felt that her dreams were within her reach. Claudia could create it; a legend that would surpass the founding tales of her family. All she had to do next was to take to the battlefield and carve her name into history!

But then, disease struck her body. It was incurable, painful — and lethal.

Life In Death

Yes, really. Till the sun sets on that fateful day... I will protect you.

The disease took everything from Claudia. She felt it slowly eat away at her body. Knowing that her dreams were slipping further and further away from her, she wept despite knowing that it wouldn't change anything. But then, it occurred to her: why not do so in battle if she would die anyway? She might not exceed the founder's legend in her life, but at least she could do so in death. So, she turned to various battlefields and indulged herself in many life-or-death battles, all the while feeling her body slowly give up.

It was during a time of great strife that she met with the Duke. The latter, surrounded on all sides by witches protecting him, quickly wiped out a horde of cursed monsters Claudia wanted to fight. Feeling her imminent death, Claudia made a decision to kill the Duke for denying her a glorious death.

Claudia was by no means weak. She had the strength to seek death, after all. But even in what she thought was her final moments, she still wavered. The Duke's words telling her to live snapped her out of her suicidal state. That was when she realized she would never outshine the founder, even if she died in a blaze of glory. The founder became a legend because she denied death, which made both her life and demise shine. Still burning to achieve her dreams, Claudia accompanied the Duke, figuring she could reach them by fighting for his future.

Claudia Personality

Claudia is a swordmaster who seeks to challenge and defeat stronger opponents. She's proud of what she has achieved and has a warrior mindset that values strength of all forms above all else.

That said, perhaps as a consequence of contracting an incurable disease, Claudia has developed a pessimistic outlook for her own future. Although her basic nature hasn't changed, she often sinks into a depressing spiel about her imminent demise.

Despite her bleak future, Claudia . But that doesn't mean she's the type who would recklessly run towards danger. After all, a meaningless death isn't a glorious one.

It's said she lived as if she was one with the sword before meeting her end on the battlefield. That's nothing compared to me, though. The founder learned techniques at eight years old that I learned at seven! And yet, nothing will stop everyone from saying "founder this" and "founder that..." Sure, the founder's worthy of all the praise, but records were made to be broken. If everyone's aiming to be a swordsmaster like her, then I'll aim even higher... and carve out a legend that outshines hers! My admiration drives me to outshine her... That's what makes a swordsmaster, right?

Chapter 1

unrivaled, and all-powerful...
she was the founder of our great family.

It's said she lived as if she was

meeting her end on the battlefield.

That's nothing compared to me, though.
The founder learned techniques at
eight years old that I learned at seven!

And yet, nothing will stop everyone from
saying "founder this" and "founder that..."

Sure, the founder's worthy of all the praise,
but records were made to be broken.

If everyone's aiming to be
a swordsmaster like her, then
I'll aim even higher...
and carve out a legend

Chapter 2

This disease is incurable. It's feared to be fatal, as its victims have as little as six months left, or as long as... By this time next year, I'll already be... What kind of twisted joke is this? This isn't the place for me to stop. I'm not about to let some disease...! But, with my body not moving as I wanted it to, I knew it was withering away with each passing day. Why did this happen to me...? Just when my legend was getting started! Why...?! If you have the time to weep, then get stronger! There's no enemy a sword can't cut down! I would say those words to myself whenever I felt weak, pushing myself forward till this day. But... No matter how much stronger I've gotten, I just can't cut this disease down!!

The pain let my body only when I was fighting. It was as if I'd returned to the time when I was free of this disease. But the moment the fighting stopped, the disease would come back and continue to suffocate me. I've lost count of the times I cursed the gods for forcing this fate onto me. But, I'll be grateful only because they've let me choose how I die. How lucky am I to be able to die on the battlefield! Now, I can do it. By dying in a way that outshines the founder's moment of death, I will outshine her legend! I will captivate everyone... as they witness the most beautiful death of all!

Not long after they appeared did they completely wipe out a horde of cursed creatures. ...The nerve. Just when I thought I could finally die in a blaze of glory, now I have to... ...! Ahhh... I guess time's up. "I guess I just have to make do at this point. I'll make you pay for getting in my way... with your life!" I made my way towards the man with the staff. He seemed like the most important one of the lot. "I bear no ill will towards you... Sorry." At last, this is it... But just as my blade was about to strike him, his staff suddenly started to shine. At that moment, the whispers urging me to die were drowned out, as his voice pierced deep into my heart... With one powerful word—"Live!"

To this disease, and to myself. If I let this be, outshining the founder will be nothing more than an empty dream. So, I'll fight. Not to die in a blaze of glory, but to captivate everyone with my way of life. These twin blades and I will fight till I breathe my last. Fighting for the fate of the world will be perfect for leaving behind proof that I died. No—that I lived! I'll leave this world earlier than them... That's inescapable... That's why, till then... Till the moment my life comes to an end...!
