Then...when the battle was over, we were the only ones left with our limbs intact.- Armstrong
In the war-torn nation of Galia, witches weren't just ostracized – they were treated as outcasts with no value. Herded into cramped ghettos, they faced constant discrimination and hardship. It was here that Armstrong, herself a witch, found herself. The war, however, presented a twisted opportunity. The desperate Galian military offered witches a chance to escape their dire situation: fight for their country. This wasn't a call to arms fueled by patriotism but a desperate bid for survival – a chance for food, shelter, and a flicker of respect.
Assembled from these outcasts, the Witch Corps was born. Led by Armstrong, they weren't just soldiers; they were a band of survivors fighting for a sliver of dignity. Their secret weapon? Witch powers. While other soldiers relied on brute force, the Witch Corps wielded potent magic, turning the tide of battles and becoming an unstoppable force. News of their victories spread, and slowly, the perception shifted. The ostracized witches were now hailed as heroes, their magical abilities no longer a mark of shame but a source of national pride.
Not a single tear was shed. My heart shattered with every shot.- Armstrong
Despite their heroism, the Witch Corps remained second-class citizens. Their victories were a means to an end, not a genuine acceptance of their place in Galian society. This uneasy truce would shatter, revealing the brutal truth behind their supposed glory.
Betrayed by the government they protected, the Witch Corps was ambushed in a trap designed to kill witches. Mortally wounded but clinging to life in agonizing pain, Armstrong ended his comrades' suffering with a heavy heart. Offered vengeance by the Pope, Armstrong, consumed by grief and rage, refused and vowed to make those responsible pay. Fueled by his grief and a twisted sense of justice, Armstrong resurrects his comrades as an army of undead and marches on the prosperous capital, determined to force the city to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the ostracized witches and the actual cost of war.
Armstrong is a soldier hardened by the brutality of war. A stoic leader, she prioritizes efficiency and results, finding comfort in routine and masking her inner turmoil. Haunted by the past and the loss of her comrades, Armstrong wrestles with survivor's guilt.
Fiercely loyal to those she trusts, Armstrong yearns for a life free from discrimination, a world where witches are accepted. Armstrong is a compassionate leader, driven to protect her remaining comrades and ease their suffering. She seeks vengeance and a future where witches can finally live in peace.
Chapter 1 |
---|
The Witch Corps—that's what we were called. We were also known as the North's strongest unit during the Third Galian Civil War. Oh yes, we were strong—so strong, no one else even came close. Outcasts of no value who were born as witches...myself included. That's the kind of lot that was assembled together. So, everything was a first for me. Meeting comrades who I knew had my back, and being rewarded for being a witch. Back then, a bond thicker than blood, deeper than anyone else could ever understand...undeniably tied us to one another. They were everything to me... so I took this pistol, and planted a bullet into each of them. Until every last one...was gone. |
Chapter 2 |
---|
In Galia, witches, immigrants, and criminals were all treated equally as second-class citizens. We were all pushed into the cramped, dirty Internment Zone. Every day was dog eat dog... so the war was a godsend. After all, if I joined the military, I'd be able to eat food and not feel cold. Still, all second-rate citizens are treated as pawns, forced into the frontlines with little to no training. The lot of bottom-feeders were massacred— their bodies dropping left and right. But, we were different. We each had secret weapons... Yes—our magical powers. I assembled all the witches together. We protected each other as we coordinated our powers, fighting desperately for our lives. Then...when the battle was over, we were the only ones left with our limbs intact. That was when the Witch Corps was born. |
Chapter 3 |
---|
I wonder when it all changed. We were supposed to be fighting to live, but now, we were living to fight. The battles were violent, and yet, we were still treated as pawns. But, it didn't matter how relentless the missions we were mobilized for were— we always came back home. Our unit was small in number, but we never lost a single soldier. Before long, this lot of detestable witches were called by a new name— "patriotic heroes." I was so happy. My subordinates—my comrades were finally able to smile. We found that thing called a reason to live. ...But, it would've been much better if my story ended right here. |
Chapter 4 |
---|
At any given moment, stars that shine too brightly will one day disturb the harmony of the night sky. Apparently, we became those stars. Near the war's end, inside a hidden mine in the South, we were on a simple ambushing mission... At least, that's what we thought. But, it wasn't enemies that surrounded us— it was a touch-activated magic circle... A trap that reacts to magical power, meant only for killing witches. If we were bathed in its light, nothing would save us. Do we run? Do we hide? Neither was an option— we had nothing to use for cover. We were set up by those snakes we thought were our allies— the Northern government. "Captain, get down!" My second-in-command pushes me aside, and our surroundings are engulfed in light... That was the end of the Witch Corps. |
Chapter 5 |
---|
We were so strong. A normal witch would've instantly died after getting hit by that attack, but we didn't. No—we couldn't. "Please, help me..." "Please, kill me..." "Please, take the pain away..." ...You understand the meaning behind these words? Every nerve in their body was ripped apart, but that wasn't enough for death to claim them. Even now, I can still hear their screams calling out to me in the darkness. So, with my own two hands, I put their pain at ease. Yes—each and every one of them... with this pistol. And yet, they held no grudge towards me. They even thanked me. Not a single tear was shed. My heart shattered with every shot. I pulled the trigger for the last time, and heard the dry sound of the empty cartridge falling onto the dirt. Then, she appeared as if she was lying in wait this whole time—the Pope. |
Chapter 6 |
---|
You know what she said to me? "If it is revenge you seek, then I will grant you power." ...Who the hell do you think you are? Don't fret—I have no need of your power. My time on the battlefield has already taken my sanity away. I collected my comrades' dog tags and hung them around my neck. I will never forget any of you. We're bound forever... I'll eventually follow you all to the other side. So, wait for me just a little longer. ...Because I'm going to see to it that those snakes pay for what they've done. At last, I turned my head towards the Pope and told her one last thing. Be sure not to miss out on what's coming next. You'll get what you wish for— No, I'll show you something the likes of which you've never seen... The place I have in my sights is...the capital. |
Chapter 7 |
---|
Marching in the depths of darkness is my army of specters, revived from death by my magic power. Not only are they fellow soldiers— they're lost souls. It was like we made a triumphant return home. How absurd—not a single person here to celebrate our homecoming. The capital exudes prosperity, corruption, extravagance... This city has grown fat as if it was oblivious to the war. That goes without saying. We protected it, after all. We risked our lives, crawled through battlefields, evaded blades and bullets, swam in mud and blood, turned our world into nothing but gunpowder, blood, and iron— and we protected this damn city! That's why I—we must make them learn... that there's nothing different about us. That there's something that connects them to us. That there's one thing that makes us all equal—"death." Exterminate the knaves who resist. Leave the cowards who flee. March until this land is filled with nothing but silence. ...My comrades in arms! Together, let us bring this city to its knees! |
Login 1 | You're here. Now then, your orders. I'm ready for what needs to be done. |
---|---|
Login 2 | You're late... If you intend on deserting us, I'll have you relinquish your authority to me. |
Home 1 | I hear no cannons or pistols, smell no gunpowder, see no muddy water... Never thought I'd wake up to a morning where this all felt normal. |
Home 2 | This pistols the Model 1805 Magic Blitzer—a modest weapon that any witch can handle. The grip, slide, trigger—everything's customized specially for my hands. I used this pistol to... No, forget I said anything. |
Home 3 | Maintaining my pistol's just as important as maintaining my glasses. I can't aim when I can't see... It's god-awful being nearsighted. When I lived in the Internment Zone, anti-riot gas did quite a number on my eyes. |
Home 4 | Hey, you're overdoing it. A soldier's duty is to rest whenever they can. Plus, no self-respecting commander should ever look weary in front of their subordinates. Understood? Now, stop what you're doing, and go for a walk. |
Home 5 | It bothers me that you're lacking in the muscle department, but I can accept trusting you as my superior. The most important quality for a commander to have is, "The strength to never say die." Mm—there's no mistake about it. You have it, alright. |
Home 6 | Today's your birthday, right? Happy birthday. It's good you're not getting older while fighting in the trenches. I just hope everything stays that way. |
Home 7 | Supply trains are important. You do know what an army marches on, right? Well... it doesn't look like my meals will consist only of canned food while I'm here. Look, someone's at it baking bread again... Mmm... Smells delicious! |
Home 8 | Galia was once divided in two—the North and the outh. They were forced into unification, but all that did was trigger a civil war. This is the third time that's happened... If a fourth were to break out, I just hope it doesn't happen until well into the future. |
Home 9 | Natasha's been helping me tend the garden recently... But this is actually my first time touching soil to grow life. Until now, I've mostly held a shovel when I needed to dig trenches or graves... Those were darker times. Yes—this is all very refreshing for me. |
Home 10 | I thought you and your allies would be the ones to bring about my end. But, it wasn't blades or pistols that you held out towards me—it was your hands. That was why I decided to entrust my life to you. |
Home 11 | The Witch Corps was a colorful lot. Everything about them was different—their personalities, birthplaces, abilities... Our only common ground was that we came together seeking a place to belong to. If they had met you earlier... they'd definitely be here now... Laughing and smiling. |
Home 12 | As long as you're still alive, I'm sure witches will be able to truly live their lives with happiness one day. If I can... I want to see the moment that happens with my own two eyes. It'll make one hell of a story to tell them, right? |
Awakening 1 | ...You're giving me power? |
Awakening 2 | This shadow looming over me has started to fade... From the looks of it, I can still fight. |
Awakening 3 | Hmm... This power to fight... Guess the only way to know how to make use of it is to go and try it out myself. |
Awakening 4 | ...If you're putting this much trust in me, then I guess I have no choice but to respond. |
Awakening 5 | It's been a long time since I've felt this refreshed... Forgive me, everyone. But is it okay if I relish this feeling for just a little longer? |
Awakening 6 | I'm sure... I'm stronger than how I was... back then. But—no. That's why I will not let anyone else die under my watch. Next time, the only ones this pistol will shoot down... will be the enemies before us. |
Victory | The greatest danger lies in the moment of victory. Do not let your guard down. |
Defeat | Hurry, retreat! I'll hold them back as long as I can! |
Skill 1 | Together, we conquer! |
Skill 2 | Try and keep up! |
Skill 1 (Enraged) | See if you can resist this! |
Skill 2 (Enraged) | I'll take the pain away... |
