The girl who vowed to protect her friend, Fortina, but was brainwashed by the Pope into hurting her. No longer herself, Florence becomes the Grand Master of the Knights of Longinus. But she is no knight—just a member of her village militia. Her bond with Fortina is strong—forged by unending trust.

Surviving the Plague

If this is the “will of God,” as she often says, then that must mean I was kept alive to protect her.

When she was a child, Florence suffered from a plague so deadly that almost everyone, including Florence herself, presumed she would die from it. Yet, one person in the village did not give up on saving her: Fortina. Despite Florence's own protests, pleading that she should be left to her fate, Fortina persevered.

Eventually, Florence recovered. From there on, she vowed that she would devote her life to protecting Fortina.

Brainwashing, and Rescuing Fortina

"Even if I've lost all hope of ever seeing you smile again... I'll stop at nothing to save you. Wait for me, Fortina... I'm on my way!

Years passed after Florence's near-death experience, and the plague returned to her village. Fortina, being a nun, spent her days praying at the village church. This emotional strain, however, would prove too much for her.

One day, Florence came to check in on Fortina only to find that she had become a witch. Rather than shunning her in disgust and fear as most would, Florence immediately embraced Fortina, staying steadfast in her vow to protect her and to stay by her side.

Sometime later, a letter from Elfriede, the Pope of Longinus, summoned Fortina and Florence with details of Fortina’s condition and how to heal it. Despite feeling quite suspicious of the whole situation, Florence went with Fortina to the heart of the Holy See.

Florence’s gut feeling proved to be correct as the Pope took the opportunity to erase Florence’s memories of Fortina, and ultimately brainwashed Florence into hurting Fortina.

Florence would then be remade as the Grand Master of the Knights of Longinus, who served an unwavering resolve to do as the Pope wished. She was quickly sent to go after The Duke, who she believed to be an evil man with a coven of witches.

Florence eventually faced The Duke in battle, only to have her brainwashing cleansed by the Staff of Tikkun. Now having realized what had happened to her, Florence set out in hopes of rescuing Fortina from the Curse that had turned her into a Witch of Qlipha.

Florence Personality

Florence has a gallant personality befitting of a knight. Her main characteristic is her seemingly endless devotion to keeping Fortina safe. She carries great guilt for having hurt Fortina and channels her strength toward rescuing her from her fate as a Witch of Calamity.

• Elfriede - Brainwashed Florence and made her the Grand Master of the Knights of Longinus.
• Duke of Fran - Cleansed Florence and granted her refuge.
• Fortina - A good friend of Florence. Florence vowed to protect her after Fortina saved her.
• Alexandra - Another knight who looks up to Florence after Florence bravely saved her from a life-threatening situation in battle.
• Arianrhod - A promising young knight. The two hold each other in high regard.

Interactions With Other Characters

• Elfriede plays a major role in Florence’s story. Florence was brainwashed by Elfriede into forgetting about Fortina. As the Grand Master of the Knights of Longinus, she did Elfriede’s bidding until she was cleansed by the Duke of Fran.
• Mentioned throughout Fortina’s memories and her Home 2, 6, 8, and 10 voice lines. Both witches play a major role in each other’s story.
• Mentioned in Luke’s Home 9 voice line. Here, Luke says Arianrhod is full of potential, that’s why Florence regards her highly.
• Mentioned in Alexandra’s Home 8 voice line. It is revealed here that in a battle, Florence put herself at risk by getting between Alexandra and the enemies that caught her off guard, before taking them all out in one swoop. Alexandra goes on to say "No wonder Arianrhod looks up to her."
• Mentions Luke, Iris, Ophelia, Fortina, and Arianrhod in her Home 10 voice line. Here, Florence plans on introducing Luke, Iris, and Ophelia to Fortina since she gets along well with Arianrhod.
