Gear in MementoMori raises your character's Potential and Battle Stats. Read on to learn the most important gear stats in the game, as well as how to raise these gear stats through Upgrade, Reforge, and Augment.

| Character Stat Type | What They Are | What They Do |
|---|---|---|
| Potential | STR, DEX, MAG, and STA | Stats that offer long-term growth for characters. Each Potential raises two Battle Stats plus ATK for a matching character type |
| Battle Stats (Attributes) | HP, ATK, DEF, DEF Break, SPD, P. DEF, M. DEF, PM. DEF Break, ACC, EVD, CRIT, CRIT RES, CRIT DMG Boost, P. CRIT DMG Cut, M. CRIT DMG Cut, Debuff ACC, Debuff RES, Counter, and HP Drain | Numbers that directly affect a character's performance in battle. These stats raise either your character's damage or survivability or helps both aspects. |
In MementoMori, characters have two main stat types: Potential and Battle Stats.
Potentials boost certain Battle Stats and increases ATK when matched with a specific character type (STR for Warriors, DEX for Snipers, MAG for Sorcerers), while Battle Stats directly affect a character's combat performance.
These are damage-related stats like ATK, DEF Break, CRIT, and CRIT DMG, which help take down enemies faster. Meanwhile, other battle stats like DEF, HP, EVD, and CRIT RES improve survivability. Ther are also Battle Stats like ACC, and SPD that have indirect effects, but it’s best to prioritize damage and survivability first unless a character specifically needs them.
Beyond leveling up your witches, Awakening, and Runes, one of the most effective ways to raise both Potential and Battle Stats is by raising the stat boosts your witches get from their Gear. There are three ways of raising these gear stats, and each of them raises either Potentials or Battle Stats.
| Methods to Raise Important Gear Stats |
|---|

| Must-Get Stats from Upgrading Gear |
|---|
| • DEF (Boots, Gloves) • ATK (Weapon) • P. DEF/M. DEF (Helmet, Chest Armor) |
Early on, pour resources into upgrading your character's Boots first and Gloves second for the biggest DEF boost. Put off Weapon upgrades only once you can spare the gold and Upgrade Water/Panacea. You can raise your character's damage by other means anyway, such as using ATK or PM DEF Break runes.
When you get more resources, you can start upgrading your character's Helmet and Chest Armor to raise their P. DEF and M. DEF. These stats cut physical damage from Warrior/Sniper-type witches and magical damage from Sorcerer-type witches respectively.
Hold back on upgrading your Accessories (Debuf RES) unless absolutely necessary, as a decent enough cleanser can get rid of any debuffs your units get.

| Must-Get Stats from Upgrading Gear |
|---|
| • Your character's main Potential stat • STA |
Reforging only alters a piece of gear’s Potential Stats, not its base Battle Stat bonuses: each Potential Stat boosts two Battle Stats and, for most, also adds ATK if the wearer matches the right witch type:
Meanwhile, while STA boosts HP and CRIT RES for any witch.
To maximize damage, sink as many reforge points as possible into your character’s main stat (STR, DEX, or MAG), then dump the inevitable spare points into STA to pad survivability with extra HP and CRIT RES.

| Must-Get Stats from Upgrading Gear |
|---|
| • DEF Break (From Dark Chest Level) • CRIT DMG Boost (From Holy Gloves Level) • ATK % (From Holy Weapon Levels) |
When you unlock the ability to Augment Gear (after clearing Main Quest 6-20), sink Dark Levels into your chest armor first, because its DEF Break stat buff cancels negates enemy DEF and delivers the single biggest damage spike at this point in the game.
Next, use Holy Fragments to boost your gloves’ Holy Level for CRIT DMG but, early on, stop around Lv. 15-20 and redirect those scarce fragments to your weapon, whose Holy Effect grants a percentage-based ATK bonus (ATK %) that scales better than the flat ATK boost you would get from the weapon's Dark Effect.
Keep weapon and glove Holy Levels roughly equal at first, then raise them in a 2-to-1 ratio (two weapon levels per glove level) so you balance the weapon’s immediate ATK% gains with the still-important CRIT DMG boost.
