On this day, we vowed to entrust our fates and our swords to one another... as if binding our lives together in chains.- Amleth
Amleth spent most of her early days consolidating her rule as the queen of the oceanic nation, Vyde. With her sword, "Executioner," she slew many other claimants to her throne, with her loyal knight Ophelia by her side.
Executioner, however, was made to slay those who would become tyrants. Amleth, fearing that she would soon become a tyrant herself, ordered Ophelia to kill her if that day came. Though, in truth, she desired the knight to die with her as well.
But to Amleth's surprise, Ophelia offered her own sword - "Oathkeeper" - which she asked Amleth to use if she were to betray her one day. Touched by Ophelia's gesture, Amleth exchanged swords with her.
The sword is not the master of our fate. We are our own masters.- Amleth
Later on, a great calamity struck Vyde in the form of a horde of monsters. In the middle of it all was Ophelia - who had begun turning into a Witch of Qlipha. Amleth saw it as her duty to cut Ophelia down but despaired over this choice as it would make her no different from the family she slew when she was still ascending the throne.
However, Amleth then heard of The Duke and the power of the Staff of Tikkun to rid Ophelia of her Curse. With The Duke, Amleth fought Ophelia, eventually besting her and ridding her of the Curse that devastated Vyde. With Ophelia's sanity restored, Amleth asked her to stay by her side.
Being the Queen of Vyde, Amleth carries herself with a regal air befitting of her stature. However, she also shows shades of vulnerability with how she laments Sonya's turning into a witch because of her, or how glad she becomes whenever she thinks Ophelia is present.
Chapter 1 |
---|
It was not my intention to be a ruler of any sort. But, I had no choice other than to assert my claim to the throne. To put an end to this long conflict for the crown, and return peace to my country— the Kingdom of Vyde. As the old stories go, a mighty weapon was forged by our forefathers to fell tyrants— "Executioner." I used the sword to massacre many a brethren, and ascend the throne. ...Had I fought alone, I am certain I would have met my end. I owe everything to Ophelia, who stood by my side the entire time. She is this kingdom's finest royal guard, and my dear friend since childhood. To me, there is no one else I consider family. So, I presented Executioner to her, requesting her to do the unthinkable. ...I had her promise to kill me. |
Chapter 2 |
---|
...Executioner has but one purpose— to strike down tyrants. As Ophelia and I stood at the throne, I proclaimed to her. "I have no doubt that I will one day descend down the path of tyranny, as my royal brethren did before me. When that time comes, Ophelia, I want you to swear to me... You will take Eecutioner... and kill me." ...I now Opelia. While full of kindness and loyalty, she possesses a fragile heart— one that will surely be crushed by the sheer weight of this promise. After staining that sword with my blood, Ophelia would certainly turn it upon herself and pierce right through her own heart. ...I know this is the tragedy that awaits, and yet...I am too weak to convey what my heart truly desires—for Ophelia to die together with me. Pathetic...I am nothing but a coward. |
Chapter 3 |
---|
As Ophelia's hands quivered upon receiving my sword, she spoke through the tears welling in her eyes. "I alone cannot bear the weight of this sword, Your Majesty. Thus... please allow me to make but one request. Just as you have requested of me, I, too, wish for you to take my life into your hands." As Ophelia's anxious words leave her mouth, she takes her own knightly blade, "Oathkeeper," and presents it to me. "Should a time arise in which I betray my loyalty to you...I beg of you, Your Majesty. Please, take this sword and—!" I did not give her a chance to finish her words, when I swiftly took her sword into my hands. "...Thank you, Ophelia." Tears run down our cheeks. Our promise to take each other's lives was, to us, our solace. On this day, we vowed to entrust our fates and our swords to one another... as if binding our lives together in chains. |
Chapter 4 |
---|
Hordes of sinister creatures as far as the eye could see... People fleeing in panice... Soldiers dying one after another. These infernal creatures appeard out of nowhere, threatening to destroy the kingdom. I escaped to safety, But in that moment, I noticed Ophelia was nowhere to be found. I had a paralyzing feeling that something terrible was to happen... However, it was too late. Ominous lights enveloped every horde of creatures that were laying seige to the palace. I notice immediately— That light... It's... It's her...! She transformed into something that was no longer recognizable as a human... All to protect me... All to protect this country! Ophelia... Ophelia!! I knew my voice would not reach her, but I shouted her name over and over again. |
Chapter 5 |
---|
The cursed crystals corrode the land. The source of this Curse is Ophelia, who has transformed into a Witch of Qlipha. I am sure she must be in so much pain... suffering all alone. the only one with any chance of stopping her is me... No, I must stop her. I take Oathkeeper, my fingers gripping tightly around its hilt. ...It was I who forced Ophelia into making that promise... Now I am to kill her? ...Ah, I see. In the end, I'm no different from my brothers. That is why... when I end her life, I will just as soon end my own. But, the crystals besieged the land, impeding my journey with one danger after another. It was then and there that I met the Duke. He possessed a staff capable of weakening the power of the Curse... If I could borrow this power, then perhaps...! Wait for me just a little longer, Ophelia... I will come for you. I swear. |
Chapter 6 |
---|
Ophelia! We stood atop her altar surrounded by crystals. Ophelia had completely descended into madness. As we cross swords, I screamed to her. I lost you, and for that, I finally realized...! If a ruler must walk their path alone, then I am not befitting of a queen after all! And one thing I trully needed was not that promise—it was you! So I beg you... Come back to me...! The two of us go in for the kill. Our swords collide in the thunderous clash. Plummeting from the sky, Executioner drives its blade into a crystal atop the altar, cleaving it into two... The battle has reached its end. Unconscious, Ophelia starts to collapse, but I catch her before she hits the altar floor. The ominous lights vanished, and the light of dawn bathed the altar in its warm shine. ...Welcome back, Ophelia. |
Chapter 7 |
---|
...The Curse completely vanished. The land was scarred beyond recognition, leaving our castle in ruins. There, my beloved friend stands at my side as I proclaim to her. ...Ophelia. When I lost you, my heart fell into hopelessness... Then I realized something that freed me from my despair. Why I was able to become the queen of this land...and why I was able to keep fighting until I saved you... It was all because I loved you. Dear Ophelia, allow me to once again make my request. From this day forth, I wish for nothing else but for you to stay by my side. Forever, until death do us part. Tears pour from Ophelia's eyes as I take her by the hands. "We no longer needed any chains to bind our lives together." I said to her. "The sword is not the master of our fate. We are our own masters." |
Chapter 1 |
---|
It appears that Ophelia is late... From atop this hill, I have a clear view of the children playing in the lake. It might be best if I wait here. Ophelia is my dearest friend since childhood, the knight I can trust my life with... And, the one who I caused the most pain. Executioner and Oathkeeper. The sword that vanquishes tyrants, and the sword that embodies a knight's loyalty. On the day we exchanged our swords to end each other's lives... our fates changed forever. The one who forced that choice upon Ophelia was none other than me. And yet, she has always been there for me. I wonder...am I doing everything I can to live up to her trust? |
Chapter 2 |
---|
Being surrounded by nature, in all its stillness and beauty, casts my mind back to Vyde in its former glory. With my kingdom fallen to its cursed fate, as the Queen, my duty is to restore it. However, at times I become filled with anxiety. After all, the world is a stage. We are all helpless players, merely performing a script called "Fate." There is nothing we humans can do... ...This is not what I should be doing. I came here to relax, yet here I am weighing myself down with such thoughts. Indeed. We went to great lengths to visit this wonderful lake, after all. Once Ophelia joins me, we will go for a swim. "Master! Wait for me~!" Is that...Nina? There should a cliff in the direction she is heading... No chances must be taken. I shall pursue her at once. |
Chapter 3 |
---|
The fog here has grown thicker. It is not uncommon for fog to appear at a lakeside, but on a day like this, at such an hour... ...Wait... I feel a magical force mingled with this fog. If I remember correctly, Sabrina said she was assailed by illusions. If this were the same magical force... Ophelia is likely to berate me again for plunging into danger alone, but now is not the time to be hesitating. I must hurry and find Nina. ...! The fog is suddenly lifting... "I was waiting for you, Queen Amleth." Ophelia? Why are you here...? |
Chapter 4 |
---|
Suddenly, I was in the royal capital, with no hint of its destruction in sight. Many a citizen were traversing across a busy street. And among them, the brethren who I had slain with my own hands... This must be a dream. Even though I know it is one, I just cannot... As I stood there motionless, Ophelia presented Executioner to me. "I return this sword to you, Queen Amleth. We have no more need of it. Our day of freedom has come, and the sword is no longer the master of our fate." I expected to struggle with the sheer weight of the sword, only to find it strangely light. "Queen Amleth. Let go of your royal duties... Instead, take me into your arms... then allow me to feel the whisper of your breath, and the warmth of your body." "You see, Queen Amleth...I love you." |
Chapter 5 |
---|
Ophelia's hand invites me to take it, and I... I am the only one who cannot refuse. For I must forfeit even my own life if she wishes me to do so. However... I softly pushed Executioner back towards Ophelia, and her face began to twist in sorrow. "Why...? Is this not what you desire, Queen Amleth...?" It was. I wanted to protect my loved ones without spilling one drop of blood... That was my wish— a future that my own weakness prevented me from choosing. But...I have no regrets. The world is a stage. We are all jesters merely performing a script called "Fate"... Still, should we fear decisions and choose to do nothing, we will truly become slaves to fate. Without performers, the stage's curtain will not be raised. Should a cruel fate end as a tragedy, or change into a comedy? That is nothing for any god to decide. It is for us humans to decide. |
Chapter 6 |
---|
Thank you for the beautiful dream. It allowed me to remember. Our two swords, interchained with one oath. There is nothing more we need. Yes. This is a dream. A phantom of the night. A cheap play full of nonsense, wafting in the heat of midsummer. And with that, a clichéd line would serve well to draw the curtain on this stage. Ophelia. Although I say these words to your imposter, the feelings I put into them bear no lies. I love you too...Ophelia. |
Chapter 7 |
---|
"Queen Amleth, why are your arms thrown around that tree?" "...!! N-No. There is nothing to worry about. Nothing at all..." What I said was only necessary to close the curtains on the stage— not my true feelings in any way... Before I knew it, the fog had vanished. The real Ophelia, who had finally joined me, was looking at me with a curious look on her face. It appears that Nina was also safe and sound. Indeed, that fog must show illusions that reflect one's own desires. That is why I found myself telling Ophelia... "...There are more mysterious things in heaven and earth than you can ever imagine." "...What is the mater, Queen Amleth?" "Nothing. More importantly, since we do not have many a chance like this, shall we go for a swim?" Humans are frail. We shape fantastical nightmares in a future of airy nothing. But with you here with me, I will not lose my way. Thus, please stay by my side forevermore, Ophelia. |

Login 1 | Ah, Your Grace. Bathing in the sunlight feels quite pleasant, does it not? |
---|---|
Login 2 | Where have you been, Your Grace? I understand the desire to frolic upon coming to a place such as this, but you must attend to your duties. |
Home 1 | My homeland was also near the sea, but it was always beset by falling snow and violent ocean waves. Thus, this tranquil lakeside feels quite refreshing. |
Home 2 | Nina is such a pure and gentle child, is she not? It is our duty to protect the futures of children like her. ...Although truly, if she were to grow up without changing how she behaves, we may end up having some trouble on our hands. |
Home 3 | Had I not become the Queen, I wonder what kind of life I would have led. Hehe... Such a thought is utterly beyond my imagination. But, as odd as it sounds, Ophelia and I would probably have spent our days enjoying the same kind of tranquility we are right now. |
Home 4 | We are one in the same, Your Grace, in that we both tend to overexert ourselves. Working at a time like this will only make everyone angry. After all, getting proper rest when it is the time to do so is yet another one of our duties. Look, everyone is calling for you. Would you fancy going for a swim with us? |
Home 5 | With so many incidents happening around this lake, it must pose quite the challenge for you, Your Grace. You have already gotten used to it all? Haha, I expected nothing less from you. However, I also welcome these challenges with open arms. For I can wield this sword if it means bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. |
Home 6 | Happy birthday, Your Grace. On a day like this, why not consider taking some time to loosen up and have fun? Look, everyone seems eager, almost itching, to invite you to enjoy the lakeside with them. |
Home 7 | A fog that meddles with hearts... Such a terrifying power indeed, yet it seems to have no effect on children as pure as Nina. Or perhaps...she was unaffected because of how differently we reacted to the fog. I denied the illusions that manifested before me, while Nina accepted and played with the ones she found. Yes, that may very well explain everything. |
Home 8 | Hehe, Sonya truly is full of endless energy. I do not particularly admire her fascination with Vikings... But, I sincerely hope that she does not turn out like me, and grows up without obstructions as the bright, energetic child she is now. |
Home 9 | Near my homeland is an island renowned for its hot spring. It possesses a mysterious charm that can calm even the most turbulent of hearts. Hence, I feel I understand how bathing in it every day would make Sivi the easygoing girl she is. |
Home 10 | There are many hunters who call the forests of Vyde home. Normally, they are elite hunters who live quietly amongst the trees, but should conflict arise, their unparalleled knowledge of the forests turn them into elite warriors. |
Home 11 | I did not choose to forge a future so wonderful that everyone would be safe from harm... Instead, I chose a path strewn with thorns...and a mountain of corpses... That is why, regret is the one luxury I must not allow myself to indulge in. |
Home 12 | It is said that dreams are reflections of our truest desires, even those we are not consciously aware of... Yet, even though what I saw was all an illusion, to think that I... L-Let us stop thinking too deeply on the matter. That was but a fleeting vision—a short midsummer day’s dream. |
Awakening 1 | You have my thanks. |
Awakening 2 | Truly, I must repay you for all your kindness. |
Awakening 3 | I am not much of a match for the heat. My homeland was a place confined in snow all year round, after all. |
Awakening 4 | e must understand the messages that fate heralds by facing up to them. No matter how cruel each of our fates are, we must never run away from them. |
Awakening 5 | In the truest sense possible, a ruler must encage themself in solitude. No matter how much friendship or advice they receive from others, it is their very own will that dictates their final decision. Otherwise, how can a ruler bear the responsibility for the decisions they make? |
Awakening 6 | It seems all that is precious does not glisten. After all, even as I bore the cruelty of my fate, I was still fortunate enough to meet you, and forge a new bond with Ophelia. I look forward to continuing our journey together, Your Grace. |
Victory | Security is mortals’ chiefest enemy. Let us keep our wits about us. |
Defeat | Things growing turn ripe upon their season. That said, perhaps I am still unripe... |

Summer Amleth Lament and Lyrics
Amleth Lament Monologue |
---|
Executioner. The sword that strikes down rulers who have descended down the path of tyranny. I entrusted that sword to my beloved friend. ...To have her kill me. Even though my request would be an unbearable burden to her. We stood at the throne and promised each other. Should we stray from our paths, we would take our swords and end one another. Executioner—the vanquisher of tyrants, and Oathkeeper—the ark of a knight's loyalty... To entrust our lives to each other... or to bind our fates in twisted chains. The cursed light that consumes the land— the one who called upon this tragedy...was me. Tears that mourn a loved one transform into crystals that emanate a sinister glow. ...I must keep my promise. If forcing you to suffer like this is my sin... my penance... will be to die alongside you. Her stone altar emanates an ominous light. I traversed her fallen crystals, finally reaching my destination. I was ready for what I must do. Just before her eyes completely succumb to madness, tears roll down her cheeks. I unsheathed Oathkeeper. It is time I fulfill my vow. "...I love you, Ophelia." |
