Overcoming the Main Quest

MementoMori's main quest is the primary method of progressing in the game. This MementoMori guide offers tips, tricks, and alternative ways to overcome the Main Quest should you get stuck.

What to Do When You Can't Beat the Main Quest

Raise the Characters' Level and Rarity

Rarity.png
The characters' level may need to be higher for the main quest. Raise the Character level by upgrading it with EXP Orbs and Kindling Orbs. Players may awaken the character to increase its rarity if there are replicas of the characters. But remember to use the 'Awaken All' feature sparingly, as you may lose units that you can use to Awaken your main units later on.

Increasing the rarity of the characters also increases the base power. Use Consumable Items when they are available to you. The Invocation of Chance, an invocation banner you'll unlock after clearing Main Quest 11-28, gives away many consumable items, including EXP and Kindling Orbs.

Prioritize Leveling and Equipping One Main Attacker

Properly Upgraded Florence - MementoMori

With the scarcity of consumable items and good equipment in MementoMori, the best strategy you can go for is to focus on investing most of your resources into one character. We advise picking your main attacker (the witch that deals the most damage). Examples are Cordie, Florence, Belle, and Amleth.

Prioritizing your gear investments becomes even more critical in the late game, where your enemies will likely be a dozen or so levels above you. If you've invested your resources properly, just one properly leveled unit can take these enemies out in one or two turns.

Enhance Your Gear

Equip Better Gear

Upgrade Gear.png
Aside from increasing the character's level, equipping gear will also give your witch additional BP. Once you have better gear for your witches, you can auto-equip the better pieces by pressing the 'Equip All' button in the Characters screen.

But remember that doing so will merge your new and old gear with your old gear's upgrade level, augments, and runes, transferred to the newer piece. The original gear will then disappear.

Which Gear Sets Should You Build

Upgrading Gear

Enhance the Gear.png

Gear level can be enhanced by upgrading your gear with Gold, Upgrade Water, and Upgrade Panacea. You can also upgrade your gear's rarity by fusing it with other equipment that you find. The higher the rarity, the higher the stats they can give your characters.

Items for Upgrading Gear
Upgrade Water Upgrade Water Upgrade Panacea Upgrade Panacea

These items can be bought from the Regular, Guild, or Character shops or won in the Temple of Illusion. The shops update daily, so it would be best to check them regularly.

You may also get them from Chests, so use your keys and chests when you can.

Augmenting Gear

Gear Augment - MementoMori

To get even more stat bonuses from your equipment, you should Augment your gear with Dark and Holy pieces of equipment.

Depending on the kind of equipment you use for augmentation, you'll get different stat bonuses. Prioritize augmenting your body armor with Dark gear to give your witch a PM. DEF Break boost, followed by your witch's headgear for a CRIT chance boost. As for Holy gear, use them to augment their gloves for a boost in CRIT DMG., then their weapon for a boost in ATK %.

Lastly, you can reforge the gear to optimize the boosts you get in either STR, DEX, MAG, or STA. But remember that the change in stats may increase or decrease randomly with every reforging. Also, it is advised to avoid reforging your gear until you can access Armor Sets. You can save Gold and Diamonds because reforged stats do not carry over whenever you equip better gear.

How to Enhance Gear

Invest in Runes and Rune Synthesis

Equip Runes to the Right Gear

Runes are items that give a piece of gear additional stat bonuses. Below are the offensive and defensive runes you can stick to your gear.

ATK Rune IconATK Rune PM Def Break Rune IconPMDB Rune ACC Rune IconACC Rune

M. DEF Rune IconM. DEF Rune EVD Rune IconEVD Rune Crit RES Rune IconCRIT RES Rune
Debuff RES Rune IconDebuff RES Rune

You can open up to 4 rune slots in each gear. The first rune can be unlocked with Gold, but the next 3 can be unlocked with Diamonds. Feel free to unlock all the slots eventually since these slots carry over whenever you upgrade your gear.

Rune Guide

Synthesize Runes to Increase Effects

Synthesize Runes

Combine the runes to increase their effects. To synthesize runes, go to the Box tab and select Runes. You can either synthesize all runes available or synthesize the runes one by one to have more control over what to synthesize and the resources used to synthesize.

Remember that you need a duplicate of a rune to synthesize it. For example, if you want to synthesize your Lv. 8 PM Def Break rune into a Lv. 9 PM Def Break rune, you need to have a second Lv. 8 PM Def Break rune.

Synthesizing runes in your Item Box does not automatically mean that your equipped runes have also been synthesized. To synthesize runes you've already equipped, go to the Character screen, select a piece of gear and its runes, and there will be a 'Synthesize' button next to the rune that can be tapped if you have a copy of the same rune.

Runes can be synthesized up to Lvl 15.

Rune Recommendations

Debuff RES Rune IconDebuff RES Rune

For offensive runes (attached to weapons, accessories, and hands), we recommend getting PM DEF Break, SPD, CRIT, and ACC runes. This way, you can deal more damage by negating your enemy's P. DEF and M. DEF stats, move first in battle, have more critical hits, and become less likely to miss your attacks.

Early in the game, you can use ATK runes and runes that enhance your witch's main stats, though they become much weaker as you advance through the PvE Main Quest. Give your witches HP, EVD, CRIT Res, and maybe Debuff RES runes for defensive runes if you have them. This way, you can increase their survivability in battle.

You can get Rune tickets by buying Sealed chests and pulling from the Invocation of The Witches' Secrets.

How to Collect and Use Runes

Change the Formation of the Characters

Party Formation.png
Some characters hit whoever was before them, while others needed to be next to another character to utilize a skill. Try to move around your characters to find the right combination for you.

Remember that the enemy's Soul Affinity is a clue to know what type of Soul Affinity should be in your team. There are Soul Affinity bonuses when you include 2 or more Soul Affinity that are stronger than the enemies' Soul Affinity.

What is Soul Affinity?

Complete Missions and Claim Rewards

Claim Rewards
Missions provide resources that may enhance both character and gears. Claiming rewards from the tasks, the AFK Reward System and Auto battle can help get resources for upgrades.

Do Trial Events

tower
The Cave of Space-Time, Fountan of Prayers, Battle League, Temple of Illusions, and Tower of Infinity are Trials that can be done while farming for materials to upgrade your characters. The rewards received from the trials may include coins that can be used to purchase items from the Shops.

Participate in Guild Activities

Guild Activities
If the Main Quest is undefeatable, you may do Guild Raids. Guild Battles may also work, but players have a specific time to participate. Guild Raids may provide rewards that can also be used to upgrade your gear and characters.

Don't Give Up After Your First Loss

Losing a Battle - MementoMori

You will not be penalized for repeatedly losing a battle in MementoMori's main quest. Every battle in the game runs on probability, so you might win after a few more attempts, depending on RNG. Try to clear a stage at least a dozen times before giving up. This should be easy to do anyway since you can auto-skip battles.

Watch Your Battles

Battle Status Effects - MementoMori

We also suggest you watch your attempt and see when your party gets defeated. You might see what caused your party's defeat, and you can think of a way to deal with it appropriately.

For example, your main attacker may have been afflicted with a Silence debuff by one of your enemies, preventing them from carrying out their main attack while giving the enemy party enough time to defeat your team. The solution is to outspeed the enemy that cast the Silence debuff (by giving your main attacker SPD runes) or bring along a witch that dispels debuffs inflicted on her allies.

Be Patient

Wait For More EXP and Kindling Orbs

fighting in battle - MementoMori

Sometimes, the reason for not winning is simply the need for Kindling Orbs or EXP Orbs to upgrade your Characters. Be patient and wait for the AFK Reward System or Auto Battle and the daily events to give you the necessary resources. You can try again after a while.
