Urd, Belldandy and Me

Skuld’s life revolved around her loving sisters, Urd and Belldandy. Urd, the wise one, ignited Skuld’s curiosity, while Belldandy, the optimistic one, fueled her adventurous spirit. Their laughter filled their home, a testament to their unbreakable bond. However, a devastating accident stole Urd and Belldandy away, plunging Skuld into despair. Unable to cope, her mother retreated into a fantasy world where Urd was young and Belldandy was unborn. In her mother’s eyes, Skuld vanished.

Guilt-ridden and heartbroken, Skuld sought refuge in school. She buried herself in studies, the pursuit of knowledge a stark contrast to the emotional void she felt. There, she formed an unlikely friendship, a prickly companionship that offered a sliver of solace. Despite this newfound connection, the image of her ailing mother gnawed at Skuld. Consumed by guilt, she returned home, only to find a confusing reality. Her mother, inexplicably recovered, remained lost in her delusion. Skuld, a ghost in her own home, was unseen and unheard.

Skuld’s world shattered completely when her mother, in a moment of seeming clarity, cast her out.

The years of sacrifice and the pain Skuld endured to care for her mother seemed to mean nothing. Devastated and adrift, Skuld questioned her very existence. Was Skuld ever real, or just a figment of a broken mind? Grief morphed into a suffocating despair, making her yearn for oblivion.

Yet, a spark of hope flickered in the darkness. A gentle and familiar voice called her name - “Skuld.” Memories of her loving sisters, the warmth of their embrace, and the joy of being their big sister flooded back. The love they shared wasn’t something a tragedy or delusion could erase. It was a part of her. This realization transformed Skuld. Home wasn’t the physical place, but the love she carried within, the bond with her sisters. Freedom wasn’t in forgetting the past but embracing the love that defined her as Skuld. With newfound resolve, she chose to live, honoring the love that made her who she was.
