Best Characters Tier List (PvE) | Best Characters Tier List (PvP) |
List of Contents
Most of the characters in MementoMori have very specific uses for the different situations that the game throws at its players, and this becomes truer in the game's PvP modes such as Battle League and Legends League. Here we have ranked characters according to what we think deals the most damage or gives the most utility regardless of their accessibility to players.
This tier list was also made under the assumption that players are willing to invest in characters and shoulder the costs associated with building them, though we still kept in mind which units would be the most optimal to invest resources in.
Best characters that deal the highest damage or give the best utility, on top of being useful against various PvP team setups. | |
Characters that still offer a high degree of damage and/or utility. More situational compared to SS-tier characters, but are relatively 'must-have' on one's PvP team. | |
Slightly lower damage or utility than the higher tiers, but are still good characters with useful skills. Some of the characters in this tier, however, are outperformed by characters in higher tiers. | |
Average damage potential and utility, but can offer support or synergize with other characters. Switching them out with more useful units as soon as possible is recommended. | |
Below-average performance in PvP and not recommended to use in the game's PvP modes. Even if they have their own niches, other characters fulfill those niches better than they do. |
Character | Tier Placement Reasoning |
---|---|
Fia | • if you put in the time and effort toward building her, Fia is hands-down one of the best units in the game, and even more so for PvP. The way her skills work makes her a great retaliator who can wipe out teams that rely on dealing as much damage as possible during the first turn. If they fail to defeat her by the second turn, Fia's 'Grim Retribution' skill will deal damage equivalent to up to 20% of the total damage she had just received. • Afterward, she can heal herself through her HP Drain ability and HP-related buffs, letting her soak up even more damage until she can use Grim Retribution again. |
Rusalka | • A great attacker in PvP who can inflict ATK debuffs, as well as boost her PM. Def Break stat. • At level 221 and beyond, her 30% PM. Def Break buff kicks in when her HP is below 50%. Couple that with both her Active Skills, PM. Def Break and MAG runes, as well as good gear, and you'll have a very potent witch. • Even at low investment, her ATK debuff still makes her a good support witch. But even if she's a Radiance Soul witch, investing in her fully is worth it. |
Nina | • One of the best PvP units in the game because of her high EVD stats and ability to steal buffs from other units. • Best to pair with Dian for an up to 80% EVD boost, which will make her almost impossible to hit in fights against units of a similar level. She'll eventually outlast most enemies by almost never being hit while continuously doing damage to them. |
Character | Tier Placement Reasoning |
---|---|
Merlyn | • Still a useful support witch even in PvP because of her 'Like Master Would Do' skill, which gives an up to 40% ATK boost at the very outset of the battle. Just make sure to tune her SPD stat so that she will move first before your main attacker, so your main attacker actually gets the buff. • Aside from this, she can also dispel buffs, which means she could dispel dangerous ones like Amleth's invulnerability (provided she's still alive to do so). |
Cordie | • If you're transitioning from playing PvE and want to dabble in PvP, Cordie is a good unit up until you start encountering other players that use Nina or other witches higher in this tier list. • Pumping her SPD with runes can allow her to wipe away most of the enemy party in the first turn, which can quickly give you results and climb up the rankings. • Even if she stops being your main attacker, she's still a good debuffer if you have her unique weapon - which can decrease her enemies' DEF by 80% for one turn, making them vulnerable to your other attackers. |
Summer Nina | • Good defensive unit that cleanses debuffs from your witches while keeping your main attacker protected with a Shield. She can also boost your main attacker's ATK and take it further if she ends up having a movement-hindering debuff. Really useful to have if you need another cleanser and buffer aside from Merlyn. |
Paladea | • Paladea's active skill, Bullet Storm deals great damage to random enemies and enhances a chance for dealing critical hits that cannot be dispelled. • She also stacks critical hits when paired with other Chaos Souls characters. • She can also offer Multiple barriers to her teammates, making her a great Chaos Soul offensive support. |
Tainted Iris | • A heavy-hitting attacker who can also protect your main attacker with shields. Tainted Iris works best once she's unlocked all levels of her Fatal Crush and No Mercy active skills since she can both debuff an enemy's ATK stat with her first skill and then use that debuff to multiply her second skill's damage by 2. |
Winter Amour | • A great support unit that can cut the damage all her allies receive by 30%, as well as decrease their skill cooldowns and boost their chances to deal critical hits. • She can also be a good damage dealer in her own right because her 'Holy Night's Gift' skill increases her own chance to deal critical hits. Her second active skill 'Red Thorns of Fate' multiples her damage by up to 2 if her HP drops below 50% (which should kick in once she revives herself with her passive skill 'Always By Your Side'). |
Cerberus | • Cerberus is an interesting unit in that she can be a devastating executioner - her second active skill 'Storm of Tartarus' immediately defeats an enemy if their HP is below 15% and is lower than 1500% of her ATK stat. This can be very effective if Cerberus' ATK stat is boosted with the right runes. • Her first active skill, 'Wailing Lightning Claws', also weakens an enemy's defenses against physical attacks by halving their P. DEF stat for one turn - leaving them vulnerable to other physical attackers. |
Elfriede | • Elfriede is a powerful witch though she requires a set-up that involves your other party members getting as many buffs as possible and your enemies to have as many debuffs as possible. • Her weakness is that despite her DEF buffs and damage cuts, she's still a relatively easy-to-defeat unit. She'll also have trouble against units with multi-barriers like Soltina since Elfriede only does one physical attack in both of her active skills. |
A.A. | • A.A. is a powerful attacker who can deal a lot of damage in the first two turns of a battle while receiving only less than half of the damage from an enemy team. • However, she can be countered by anyone who can inflict Faint debuffs on her ranging from Lunalynn to R-Rarity Illya. Once her damage cut buff wears off, it can be relatively easy for other units to beat her within the space of a turn. |
Ophelia | • Ophelia can act as both a main attacker and retaliator who can taunt enemies into hitting her and paying back that damage with interest by boosting her Counter stat by 50%. This passive of hers can kill your attackers without Ophelia even having to do anything. • But she can be easily countered by a Nina with high EVD that can steal her buffs. |
Armstrong | • For a Chaos Soul unit, there's little compelling reason to get Armstrong specifically for PvP since there are other units who can perform better than her at a similar or lower rate of investment. If you happen to have her, however, she's a tanky secondary attacker who can boost your main attacker's CRIT chance. Though if you just want a CRIT buff, other non-limited units can do that (like Merlyn). |
Sivi | • Sivi's a great attacker and a good support witch because of her Fortifying Blade skill, which increases her damage the longer she takes damage and is still standing. She can give this buff to two of her slowest allies as well, so tinkering with your party's SPD stats can ensure they get her buffs but still move before anyone from the enemy party does. • She'll also boost the DEF and P. DEF stats of two of her allies while dispelling her own debuffs and casting a damage cut on herself every four turns. |
Stella | • A single-attacker that can deal damage equivalent to 1200% of her ATK stat, though even on low investment she's good to bring along for her Silence debuff (which keeps enemies from casting skills). Just make sure to buff her STR stat so her Silence debuff becomes successful. |
Artie | • Good support unit to bring along because of her M. DEF debuff, which makes enemies vulnerable to other Magic-based attackers like Rusalka and A.A. • Also acts as an executioner who can take out any stragglers after your main attacker has done her thing. |
Witch Illya | • Illya (God's Curse ver.) is like Elfriede in that she can deal a lot of damage, but needs a specific setup to work right. She and her party need to survive 10 attacks so her 'God's Curse Unleashed' buff kicks in, which allows her to cast her first active skill 'God Curses the Light' with no cooldown. • Also she's a Chaos unit, which means you'll need a lot more copies to increase her rarity and make her more powerful by increasing her base stats. |
Apostle Rosalie | • A support unit whose main deal is to shield the two allies adjacent to her while stacking [Memory] buffs that increase every time her party is afflicted by a debuff from an active skill. • Once Apostle Rosalie's [Memory] stack reaches 15, she deals 8 attacks to enemies at random and decreases the skill cooldown of the two allies next to her by 1 turn. |
Primavera | • Great support witch who can both inflict Faint debuffs on her enemies and give ATK and SPD buffs to her allies. • You can also position her in front of main attackers to make them Faint and unable to receive buffs. • However, this strategy can be countered by other players fielding multiple attackers in their party. |
Lunalynn | • Lunalyn by herself is not that flashy of a unit to use because all she does is inflict Silence debuffs (depending on who she deals a critical hit to) and poison enemies (Moddey would be a better poisoner). • But if you boost her CRIT stat and heighten her chances to deal a critical hit, she can potentially inflict Silence on the entire enemy team during their first turn - which would be a boon to teams that rely on finishing the enemy off in the shortest amount of time. |
Summer Amleth | • Her Immortality debuff can help drag out a fight, which could give slow teams made up of witches like Fia or Sivi more time to gather strength and do damage. • Also has good support options, with the ability to decrease her enemies' defense against physical attacks. |
Belle | • Belle's potency as an attacker depends on who you can pair with her to buff her ATK and protect her. She inflicts 'Bleed' debuffs on enemies that continuously damage them as well as dispels one of their buffs, on top of a second active skill that deals up to 8 attacks to enemies with the lowest HP. • She also has a shield that kicks in when her HP goes below 30 percent, which makes her very tanky while she continuously casts her two active skills. |
Kaguya | • Can be a good attacker by way of her increased Counter damage and paired with characters that can provide her any form of protection (such as a shield). When she's inflicted with a debuff from an enemy's active skill, she can also debuff their ATK and PM. DEF Break (potentially blunting damage from the likes of Cordie, who can debuff her DEF and then attack). |
Serruria | • Serruria finds herself as one of the very few witches that have a specific niche she's rather good at: Taking down Nina mains in PvP. If Nina or another witch manages to dispel/steal a buff from her, this would set off Serruria's Lost Technology passive, which raises the ACC of her allies by 30%, on top of a 10% ACC buff she gets at the start of the battle. • She has little use outside of this, however, unless you plan to invest heavily in her. |
Dian | • We ranked Dian in A-tier because just like in PvE, she's also a good support witch to have in PvP because of her EVD buff. She's especially great to pair up with Nina, who can get an up to 80% EVD buff when she's on the same team. However, this EVD buff can be stolen by an enemy Nina. |
Meria | • Primarily used in PvP as a speed buffer (she can buff the speed of her allies by 10% as long as they share the same soul type with each other). It's that same condition, however, that makes her somewhat limited to use (needs to be in a majority-soul type team) • But if you manage to get beyond that then you should have no problem using her. |
Character | Tier Placement Reasoning |
---|---|
Soltina | • If you need a tank and decent debuffer for PvP that's also easy to build, Soltina could fill that role for you. However, she does need investments in both her CRIT and MAG stats for her Sleep and Faint debuffs to work. • Aside from that, she can tank hits due to her multi-barrier, though there are teams that can counter her (like a team that uses Florence, or a team that has Primavera positioned in front of her, or a team that has Mimi in it). |
Mimi | • Just like in PvE, Mimi is good to bring along because of her Resonance debuff. This means you can damage very tanky witches by hitting the enemy witch with the least DEF instead. Very useful for teams that want to take out enemy teams with burst damage. • However, her Resonance can be countered by pumping another unit's DEF with runes, keeping the debuff away from your main attackers. Some specific witches can also draw her Resonance debuff (such as Carol). |
Florence | • Though Florence is a useful unit in PvE, she's less useful in PvP because even though she can deal massive damage, she is easily countered by many units in an even fight. Still, similar to Cordie, she's useful in moving up the rankings early on if you're transitioning from PvE to PvP. Just make sure to trade her for more useful PvP units later on. |
Minasumari | • With enough investment, Minasumari becomes a useful attacker who can specialize in taking down Sniper witches like Cordie. She also gets an up to 100% ATK boost whenever an ally is defeated. |
Sonya | • Not a remarkable attacker on her own compared to other units higher up on this list, but Sonya is good to have around for her second passive skill, 'Viking Power!', which increases both the ATK and max HP of all her allies by 3%. |
Fenny | • If you happen to have Fenny, she's good to bring along in battles against team comps that rely on buffs to deal damage. • She can inflict the 'Buff Immunity' debuff on multiple enemies, though Primavera is a non-limited witch who can inflict that debuff with more precision. |
Carol | • Carol is nice to have in PvP, especially if you need to use her to take Resonance debuffs from Mimi instead of your main attacker. Outside of that, however, her defense-focused abilities don't have much utility. She can inflict Silence debuffs, but there are other witches higher on this tier list who can also do that. |
Lea | • Lea is a powerful single-target attacker who is effective against teams that rely on EVD to dodge attacks and deal damage. This is because her second skill has a damage multiplier that kicks in when the target has the 'Decreased Chance to Evade' buff (which is inflicted by her first skill that targets the enemy's main attacker/the witch with the highest ATK stat). • Even if you have one copy or just a few copies of her, she's still nice to have around because of her first skill's ability to inflict the Faint debuff. • But she could run into trouble if you're facing off against a team that uses two attackers instead of one, since the second attacker will hit her while she's attacking the first one. |
Priscilla | • A support witch that can cleanse debuffs from your main attacker with her first active skill, then heal them with the Regeneration buff from her second skill. • Aside from that, she has high base HP, as well as self-buffs for her DEF, making her relatively tanky. |
Richesse | • Richesse is a unique unit in that she has a niche in protecting the slowest unit in your party. If you happen to have a party where you've speed-tuned your team in a way that your main attacker moves last after getting all the buffs she could get, then Richesse could give them DEF and Shield buffs that will keep them alive throughout the battle. This makes her a very good unit for this specific instance. |
Summer Cordie | • Just like Cordie, Summer Cordie is a good support unit even if she's not your main attacker. She's only hampered by how easy it is to defeat her in battles. • She could potentially help in dealing with teams that have Nina in them because her first skill, Blooming Thunder, increases your main attacker's chance to hit by 25% (but decreases their chance to evade by the same amount). |
Summer Sabrina | • If you have her, she's a good support witch that can inflict Faint on the enemy with the highest HP with her first skill, as well as dispel a buff that belongs to the enemy with the lowest HP with her second skill (though she may just defeat them outright). • Becomes a better unit after level 161 since her first skill can debuff the CRIT RES of up to four enemies for four turns, making them vulnerable to other attackers. |
Asahi | • A great unit to field against other units that rely on ramping damage to win battles, such as Illya's God's Curse form as well as other damage dealers such as Florence. She can ramp up her ATK damage quicker than these other units |
Yuni | • Yuni's active skills offers consistent healing to the team's attacker and can cleanse debuffs at max level, potentially counteracting negative effects inflicted by your opponent. • She also has a High DEF bonus and critical hit resistance which enhances Yuni's survivability allowing her to stay on the field longer and continue supporting the team. • Yuni is best paired with Fia which helps reach her potential as a damage dealer. |
Matilda | • Matilda excels in PvP teams focused on single-target elimination due to her active skill that deals hefty single-target damage. She has an undispellable attack buff for herself and her strongest teammate which potentially secures quick kills against priority targets. • She also has a passive skill that offers adaptability based on the situation like Magic damage against high-DEF enemies, additional damage to enemies when her HP is high, and priority healing for herself when in critical situations. |
Milla | • Good support unit for Emerald damage dealers because she can buff their HP based on her ATK. |
Eir | • Similar to Primavera in that they both attack units directly in front of them, though Eir has a stronger emphasis on inflicting and capitalizing on Sleep and other movement-hindering debuffs. • However, this dependence on action-hindering debuffs makes her vulnerable to teams with Cordie, as well as teams with Fortina - both of whom have countermeasures versus action-hindering debuffs. |
Aine | • Hard to utilize properly because her potentially most damaging skill, her second active skill Ayre of Eternity, needs to expire first. This only happens on the 10th turn, and before long she will already be defeated by the enemy. |
Tama | • Sees some action in PvP becuase of the huge shield she can grant to other Amber Soul allies like Mimi or even Veela. Her utility is limited because of this though, since the shield isn't that big for witches of other soul types. |
Festive Natasha | • Festive Natasha is in a unique position as she deals insane amounts of damage and can cut up to 80% of the damage she receives. But she doesn't have anything much else (though she has damage cut, she doesn't have much else defense-wise so she can still be taken out easily). There's also the matter of her low hit count (her active skills make only one attack on three targets, which is lower than even other AoE attackers that can hit more targets). • If you manage to cover her weaknesses, however, she can be a damage powerhouse for any mixed-soul team. |
Character | Tier Placement Reasoning |
---|---|
Tropon | • Just like in PvE, Tropon's niche is that she can deal more damage the longer she survives in battle. Therefore she needs witches that can protect her and/or give her defensive buffs. But there are other units that you can use instead of her as a main attacker. |
Rean | • Rean is a potent attacker but only becomes so once her HP drops below 50% - since that's when her passive 'Feisty Determination' kicks in (which gives an up to 60% boost to her chances of dealing a critical hit). • But she'll need someone else in the party to take hits for her and protect her with shields or multi-barriers (on top of her own Shield, which kicks in only at the start of the battle anyway). |
Sabrina | • Sabrina is slightly more useful in PvP than PvE because though she's not as flashy of an attacker, she can still debuff enemies by decreasing their SPD. Aside from that, she can also shrug off every debuff she gets. She's outclassed by other witches, however, in terms of damage output. |
Moddey | • Moddey is slightly more potent in PvP depending on whether or not you can keep her alive throughout the battle. Aside from her ability to Poison enemies and continuously inflict damage on them, her first passive skill also allows her to Counter enemy attacks. The only issue with this is that Moddey by herself is easy to defeat, so she won't be very useful without adequate protection. |
Fenrir | • Since healing is still not that impressive in PvP, Fenrir's usefulness is limited to decreasing the skill cooldown of a witch that's next to her. But aside from that, she doesn't have much other use, so she should be used in niche situations where decreasing your main attacker's skill cooldown is a must. |
Amleth | • The problem with Amleth is that her Immortality buff can be stolen by Tropon or Nina , which would make her vulnerable in PvP Defense. |
Chiffon | • Chiffon's skillset of support-focused abilities is good if you happen to have her. These skills range from healing allies' HP, to increasing their ATK and DEF stats, as well as granting them shields. This is on top of debuffing her enemies by lowering their CRIT RES (making them vulnerable to your main attackers) and inflicting Sleep. • The targeting of her second skill (the one that inflicts the debuffs) is random, though, and if it hits her allies it'll heal them instead. However, you'll need to put resources toward boosting Chiffon's ATK to make the healing worthwhile. |
Sophia | • Not much notable just by herself. Sophia shines more when she has her unique weapon, which gives her Counter stat a 55% boost (meaning that she'll damage enemies who attack her). However, like Moddey, she lacks survivability since she doesn't have any DEF buffs. She only has HP and CRIT RES buffs to rely on, which may not be enough for her to survive and keep countering enemy attacks. |
Fortina | • With healing still being sub-optimal in PvP, Fortina has limited use in a team outside of granting Shields to all her allies. Not worth investing in for those with limited resources. |
Winter Tropon | • Winter Tropon has a niche in that she can steal buffs from enemies, as well as take their ATK and DEF stats, though her first active skill cannot deal a critical hit. Her second active skill, meanwhile, can inflict Faint debuffs on the entire enemy party, though the chance is only 20%. |
Gil’uial | • Though she can inflict Silence on enemies, other units can do that while also having more flexibility. |
Morgana | • Though she can inflict Silence on enemies, other units can do that while also having more flexibility. |
Alexandra | • Though her active skills let her deal both decent damage as well as damage over time with her Bleed debuff, she still needs high-level gear to be of any use. This means players who don't spend much in the game won't be able to tap into her full potential, and those who can spend more will find that it would be more worth it to give good gear to other attackers instead. |
Summer Moddey | • Summer Moddey's skills shine better in PvP rather than PvE because of how battles can go on for longer in the former. This gives her ample time to inflict poison on most of her enemies, which lets her various buffs kick in. These range from ATK buffs, to dealing more attacks depending on how many enemies she's already poisoned. |
Veela | • Just like in PvE, Veela is okay to have around if you can or are willing to go out of your way to get her since she can debuff her enemy's ATK and lower their SPD. If she's the fastest unit in your team, she can hamstring the enemy party at the outset of a fight unless they have a witch that dispels debuffs. |
Valeriede | • Valeriede's attacks are potentially powerful, with her first active skill being a flurry of physical attacks on one target. However, the problem is that the targeting for this skill is random, limiting her usefulness. |
Natasha | • Similar to Armstrong, Natasha is a unit that requires some investment to make useful, and even then she's outperformed by other units. However, she is one of the easier Radiance units to get copies of (since she's available in MementoMori's standard 'Prayer of the Cursed' banner. |
Luke | • Luke has a niche where she can be your shield breaker, making her useful against main attackers protected by other units. But she's also useful in protecting your main attacker by increasing their CRIT RES by 60% (if Luke is placed in a corner next to that main attacker). |
Mertillier | • Niche in PvP since even though her 65% ATK stat will boost your main attacker's damage considerably, she has to wait until turn 2 to be able to cast it, and she might end up getting defeated beforehand. But if you are able to prevent this, she could become a useful support. |
Lea | • Niche in PvP since even though her 65% ATK stat will boost your main attacker's damage considerably, she has to wait until turn 2 to be able to cast it, and she might end up getting defeated beforehand. But if you are able to prevent this, she could become a useful support. |
Amour | • Amour may be an alright support for PvE, but in PvP she's only useful if your enemy uses healing. If not, her niche is already filled by Amleth. |
Claudia | • Claudia's powerful attacks are better in PvP since they could potentially defeat powerful witches outright (and even counter witches that rely on EVD to avoid damage). • Her only setback is that the nature of her passives continually decreases her HP, making it important for her to either receive healing or be protected by tanky witches. |
Liselotte | • Liselotte's active skill, Gungnir deals significant AoE damage upon reaching its highest level, allowing her to clear multiple enemies efficiently, which can be advantageous in various PvP situations. •Aside from her AoE damage, she can also do crowd control, potentially disabling multiple enemies, and hindering their ability to attack. • Her passive skill can grant Liselotte a powerful ATK buff, enhancing her overall damage output. |
Freesia | • Healing is not potent in MementoMori's PvP, and her EVD buffs are negligible compared to Dian. Better to give her slot in your party to a support witch that improves ATK or DEF stats. Her buffs cna also be stolen. |
Character | Tier Placement Reasoning |
---|---|
Ivy | • Ivy only shines in terms of damage output once her allies start being defeated, and even then her attacks only hit one target (though she can be an executioner). • She can potentially be useful against teams with a slow main attacker (since she can inflict Faint on them), but even so, other units can inflict Faint with more utility than her. |
Hathor | • Though she can inflict an ATK debuff on her enemies, Hathor is much less useful as a unit compared to Rusalka - who can both debuff the enemy's ATK and fill the role of a main attacker. |
Olivia | • While an alright support witch in PvE, Olivia becomes much less potent in PvP, where you're better off giving your gear to other witches instead of her. Her role as an ATK buffer can be fulfilled by other witches instead. |
