The Witch Who Wanted to Become a Handmaiden

I'd become a handmaiden... and one day, I'd have that fateful encounter, just like my mother did. I'd meet the master I'm destined to serve, and work to make him happy... That was my dream.

"A country girl who wanted to work as a handmaiden, but found herself rejected because she was a witch. Monica comes from a family of handmaidens, and she too wants to become a handmaiden because of her love for caring for other people. However, one thing stood between her and her dreams: She was a witch, and people hated witches.

Though her masters would always appreciate her at first for her hard work, they would always change their tune the moment they found out that she was a witch. She had gone through 99 masters, but all of them wound up banishing her from their estates one way or another.

Monica Finds Her Master

His goal is to save every single witch out there, and it seems he has a long, cruel journey ahead of him. So to help ease his troubles even just a little bit, I want to serve as his handmaiden and take care of him.

Monica's 100th master seemed to be different, however, as he allowed her to stay with him despite knowing she was a witch. But it turned out that all he was really doing was keeping Monica so he could hand her to the Church of Longinus, which had been capturing witches through the infamous Witch Hunt.

When the Knights of Longinus were about to drag her away, however, what Monica refers to as a strange man and woman rescued her from their clutches. This duo is implied to be the Duke of Fran and his attendant, Iris.

At present, she is serving as The Duke's handmaiden at his estate. She always accompanies him whenever he sets out to rescue other witches. "

Monica is a kind-hearted girl with a love for caring for other people. Though the rejections she got from her past masters have made her believe that a witch's efforts will never be acknowledged, she gives her all when it comes to attending to The Duke.

Monica's family - A family of mostly handmaidens. Like them, Monica wanted to be a handmaiden.
Monica's past masters - All banished Monica from their estates after learning about her status as a witch.
The Duke of Fran - Rescued Monica from the Church of Longinus. After, Monica served as the Duke's handmaiden and accompanied him whenever he goes on rescue missions.
Iris - Aided the Duke in rescuing Monica.

Mentioned in Iris’ Home 8 voice line. Here, Iris asks Monica to bring some bags to a different room. Monica carries them all and stumbles before Iris can tell her to bring them one at a time.
Mentioned in Fortina’s Home 9 voice line. Here, Monica helps Fortina pack away all the clothes they had for laundry when it suddenly started raining.
Mentioned in Yuni’s Home 8 voice line. Here, Yuni gives Sivi an earful as the latter is back to her unhealthy eating habits. Yuni shows support as she said she’ll consult with Monica to add medicinal food to Sivi’s diet.

Chapter 1
"I'm sure you'll do great," my mother smiled. I watched her, and all my brothers and sisters wave goodbye to me as I stepped into the carriage bound for the city. Living in a poor farming village with tons of children is... difficult to say the least... From a very early age, I learned just how hard my parents worked to support us. Which is why, following my family's rule, I left home at the age of 12—just as all my older sisters had done. If I go somewhere that has a lot of people, there's bound to be work to do. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried... But with just as much anticipation overflowing in me, I ventured into a new town.

Chapter 1

"I'm sure you'll do great," my mother smiled.

I watched her, and all my brothers and sisters
wave goodbye to me as I stepped into
the carriage bound for the city.

From a very early age, I learned just how hard
my parents worked to support us.

Which is why, following my family's rule,

But with just as much anticipation overflowing
in me, I ventured into a new town.

Chapter 2
I hard heard that both my mom and sisters used to work as handmaidens, which is why I wanted to follow in their footsteps. There are people who would say that being a handmaiden is the perfect job for country folk like us who've never had any form of schooling... But I've always wanted to become a handmaiden. It's been my goal ever since I was younger, when I realized just how much I enjoy taking care of people. I'd become a handmaiden...and one day, I'd have that fateful encounter, just like my mother did. I'd meet the master I'm destined to serve, and work to make him happy... That was my dream. To achieve that dream, I believed I could overcome any hardship... It never even crossed my mind that a witch couldn't become a handmaiden...

Chapter 2

But the second they find out I'm a witch... they change. I've got no allowance... and barely enough money for food tomorrow... Why does being a witch mean I have to suffer like this...?
