Simply leveling up your witches wont cut it in MementoMori, and you'll need to enhance their stats with Gear! Read on to find out what Gear is, what kind of stats they affect, and how to enhance your Gear.
List of Contents
'Gear' refers to the items that you can equip witches with to boost their stats. For instance, a Weapon increases a witch's ATK, which could give them a big power boost and win the battle.
Each piece of gear has two effects: the Base Effect and the Bonus Effect. The Base Effect is the stat boost the Gear would give by itself, while the Bonus Effect is a set of other stats boosted by the Gear in question. The rarer a piece of Gear is, the more stats that will be boosted by the Bonus Effect.
Gear pieces also have their own level requirement called 'Gear Lv' or gear level. This level also dictates how much you can Upgrade a piece or gear. Your unit won't be able to equip this particular item if its Gear Lv is higher than the witch's Character Lv.
Gear Type | Stat Affected by Base Effect |
---|---|
Weapon | ATK |
Accessories | Debuff RES |
Hands | DEF |
Head | P. DEF |
Body | M. DEF |
Feet | DEF |
Dark | Holy | |
---|---|---|
Weapon | ATK | ATK (%) |
Accesories | P. DEF | ACC |
Hands | M. DEF | CRIT DMG Boost |
Head | CRIT | P. CRIT DMG Cut |
Body | DEF Break | M. CRIT DMG Cut |
Feet | HP | HP Drain |
Augmenting a piece of gear adds extra stat boosts based on whether Dark or Holy equipment was used in the process. Key Augments to prioritize are DEF Break with Dark equipment for chest armor, CRIT DMG Boost with Holy equipment for gloves, and ATK (%) with Holy equipment for your witch’s weapon.
Stats Affected by Offensive-type Runes (Weapon, Accessories, Hands) |
Stats Affected by Defensive-type Runes (Head, Body, Feet) |
---|---|
STR, DEX, MAG, ATK, PM. DEF Break, ACC, CRIT, Debuff ACC, SPD |
STA, HP, P. DEF, M. DEF, EVD, CRIT RES, Debuff RES |
You can stick items called 'Runes' to your Gear to grant even more stat boosts to your witches. They are divided into two types - Offensive Runes, and Defensive Runes. This determines where you can attach them.
You'll get a whole lot of runes for free just by progressing through the game, but the best runes by far are PM. DEF Break and SPD, which you can only buy from the Rune Shop.
Gear sets are pieces of gear that have their own motif as well as their own stat bonuses if your character has more Gear equipped that belongs to the same set. These special pieces of gear are unlocked through the Gear Invocation banner, which is unlocked around Chapter 13.
Unique or Exclusive Weapons are special gear obtained by using Magic Crystals in the Gear Invocation banner. These crystals allow you to purchase parts needed to create weapons that provide unique effects, enhancing the assigned witch’s skills and stats. For instance, the Lance of the Unbending Vow not only serves as a lance but also boosts Florence’s Scarlet Shimmer skill and gives her a passive ATK increase.
Similar to the Gear Invocation banner, Unique Weapons become available around Chapter 13, and characters must be at least level 180 to equip them.
Unique Weapons can also level up and have their rarity increased to raise their level cap. As the level cap increases, more Unique Weapon skill effects are unlocked, further enhancing your character’s skills.
The primary way to get your hands on Gear pieces is by progressing through the game. The Main Quest, Tower of Infinity, and even the Cave of Space-Time (through the Mystery Shop) can give you a lot of Gear pieces. You'll be smelting most of these to create Dark Equipment and Fragments. For Holy Equipment, you'll need Holy Fragments, which can be earned from the Battle League or Guild Raid rewards.
The Shop is another potential source of equipment for your witches. It sells normal, Dark, and Holy gears, which can come in handy if you need to do a few more Augments on your item to increase its Holy or Dark level. While Dark and normal gear are very easy to find, the shop is the only place to get Holy Equipment.
Participating in Guild Raids can also net you equipment that you can either put on your characters or use as fodder for the smelter to get Dark equipment. Make sure to participate often as Guild Battles are also your primary source of Holy Fragments (which are used to buy Holy equipment).
Gear Gachas allow you to get gear parts such as tomes and scrolls that you can use to get high-level gear starting on level 180. Aside from the gear parts, they also provide items that you can use to increase your character's gear levels and upgrade its skill boost.
Because upgrading your gear's level will only enhance just one corresponding stat, it's best to prioritize the ones in the Weapon, Hands, and Feet slots. Weapon increases your unit's ATK while gloves and boots increase a witch's DEF.
P. DEF, Debuff Res, and M. DEF that you'll get from the other gear types is also very important, but ATK and DEF is useful in ALL your matches while the others are a little bit more situational.
Each piece of gear also enhances a specific stat when you augment them and increase their Dark/Holy level. Just like with the regular upgrades, some Augment Effects are more valuable than others. You should be using your unused dark gear and Dark Perfume to augment your main unit's chest armor to increase her PM. DEF Break stat, as this is by far the most impactful stat that dark augments can offer.
Inversely, your holy gear should be used on both your weapon to increase your carry's ATK by a certain percentage, and your hands/gloves to improve the damage you deal with crits. A good holy level ratio for your weapon and hands is 2:1.
You'll earn a lof runes from Mystery Rune rewards, but you can't get PM. DEF Break and SPD runes from there. These two runes are the most important ones because PMDB will help carries shred through defenses while SPD will improve the chances of your character attacking first in the turn, two very valuable things to have, especially for carries that you rely on to win battles. These runes can only be bought from the Rune Shop with Rune Tickets.
Unique Weapons are weapon-slot gear that you can equip only for a specific unit, and they'll improve that said units' capabilities, often improving the numbers of their abilities and adding more powerful effects. Once you get a unit to Lv 180, getting them their UW should be one of your top priorities, especially if the unit in question is your carry.
However, don't just blindly get unique weapons for all your units. You'll have to read through what these UWs do and determine which ones you should prioritize getting first, as some bonus effects are much more impactful than others. For example, getting Cordie's UW at base allows her to inflict an 80% DEF debuff to multiple opponents, which is a very strong debuff that makes her opponents vulnerable to attacks from Cordie and the rest of her team. Meanwhile, getting Mimi's UW will only increase the damage she does with her Wild Claw skill at base, which is surely nice to have, but is far less valuable than Cordie's DEF debuff. If you have both Mimi and Cordie at 180, it makes complete sense to prioritize getting Cordie's first.
Later into the game, you'll start getting named gear that, when paired with the other gear belonging in the same set, offers powerful passive buffs to the witch you equip them on. The more gear in a set you have equipped on a certain unit, the more effects they'll receive. Getting all 6 of a specific set will grant the unit all the bonuses it has to offer, but a lot of people like to mix it up and get different bonuses from different gear combos.
That said, try to make the most of these bonuses as the boosts from here might be just what you needed to get yourself un-stuck and continue progressing.
