Set Your Team According to Who You're Facing

Witches Battle League

Unlike PvE, where you mostly need to worry about dealing as much damage as you can within the shortest amount of time, the Battle League is more demanding. Here, the teams you will face are crafted by other players, and they've most likely designed their teams to defend against certain teams.

For example, if you've been using Cordie or Florence as the main attackers in your team, you might eventually come across a team with Nina in it, supported by Dian and Freesia. Dian and Freesia buff Nina's EVD, which is already high. Unless your Cordie or Florence have high ACC, their powerful attacks won't even scratch Nina.

So you will have to come up with a team that can counter - or at least mitigate - the strengths of the enemy team to beat them. Always be mindful of the skills your enemy's witches have, and whether or not you have witches that can counter those abilities or exploit your enemy's weaknesses.

Witch Stats - MementoMori

Just because you'll be fighting enemies with a similar BP as you do, it does not mean that your opponents' witches won't have other advantages. You may have Nina in your team, but she's only at SR rarity (she only got past her level cap thanks to the Level Link feature). But the enemy Nina is not only at UR rarity (which has higher stats), but she even has her own unique weapon.

In this scenario, the higher-rarity and better-equipped Nina wins. Before battle, check the color of the frame around the icon of the witch. If it's Gold, then they're at SR or SR+ rarity. If it's Blue then it's at SSR or SSR+. If it's Red, then they're already at UR or UR+ rarity, and if it's Black then you're up against an LR rarity witch.

If the witch has stars on the lower-mid corner of her icon, then she's already at LR+, with the number of stars determining whether she's LR+1 all the way to LR+5.

Higher rarity witches have better base stats than base rarity witches, which can make them more potent in combat. Make sure your own witches are awakened to a similar rarity, and they are also at a similar level to the enemy team.

Awakening Guide

Get the Proper Rune and Equipment Setup For Your Witches

Witches

Aside from awakening your witches, make sure that they have proper gear as well. After clearing Main Quest 13-22, you unlock the ability to pull for parts of named gears (different from the generic gear you've been getting up until Level 180). These named gears come in sets, and the more pieces of a certain named gear you have, the more buffs you get from its Gear Set Effects.

For example, sticking with Nina, you may have a Nina at UR rarity wearing Lucifugus gear, but if the enemy's UR rarity Nina is wearing Satan gear, then you are at a disadvantage. While Lucifugus gear gives +3000 DEF Break, +20% HP, and +10% ATK, the Satan gear gives +25% HP, +16% ATK, and +4000 DEF Break. The Nina with better gear has a higher chance of winning.

Gear Guide

Cordie

Also, make sure that your witches have the proper runes attached to their gear. PM DEF Break runes are essential, followed by what other stat you think your witch needs. For example, Cordie will need PM DEF Break runes, ACC runes, CRIT runes, and DEX runes (since DEX is her main stat and will increase her overall damage) on all her right-side gear (weapon, accessory, gloves). But if you have your PM DEF Break runes at Level 13, while the enemy has their PM DEF Break runes at Level 14, the enemy has a higher chance of winning because of the bigger PM DEF Break buff they'll get from their Level 14 rune.

What Runes Should I Use?

Another thing to take note of is whether your enemy has a unique weapon or not. Unique weapons give special skill effects that enhance a witch's skills. For example, Nina's unique weapon, Lost Child, gives her a 100% chance to steal buffs, decreases her target's ACC, and increases the damage she deals (assuming that it's fully awakened). Even the base UR rarity version of this weapon gives Nina a boost in utility since the "100% to steal buffs" is already there from the get-go.

Before fighting someone, tap their icon to see what gear they have. If they have a unique weapon, it means their witch has access to skill effects that your witches don't. This puts them at an advantage and you at a disadvantage if your own witch doesn't have a unique weapon of their own. Also, make sure to check the rarity of the unique weapon to see what additional skill effects they have.
