“This girl is a genius in the truest sense of the word.Unlike me, who's just a complete failure...”- Serruria
Serruria is a young student working in a laboratory. She encounters her colleague, Meria, who is known for her cheerful demeanor and eccentric personality. Meria interrupts Serruria's research and excitedly shares a new discovery. However, Serruria struggles to understand Meria's complex explanations due to her brilliance.
Serruria recounts a past failure when she was placed in charge of an experiment at the Academy. Her experiment went wrong, resulting in the death of all the plants. As a consequence, she was temporarily dismissed from the Academy. It was during this time that Meria approached her, offering words of encouragement and support. However, Serruria is left questioning Meria's intentions and wondering who she really is.
“Meria, you were the one who told me it's okay to fail, so take this...!”- Serruria
While waiting for the temporary dismissal to be complete, Serruria helped Meria with her own research. Meria had been proposing new theories and even have government confidential documents lying around. Serruria found out that their research is about Demon Seen Transplantation.
As they are experimenting on their research, an explosion happened in the Academy which made a huge bud surge from the research facility. She realized that Meria might have planted the seed inside her. Hoping to help her friend, she used the vial of her failed experiment and used it to the bud and saved her friend.
Serruria appears to have a reflective and cautious personality. She is self-critical, as shown by her contemplation of past failures and their consequences. Her skepticism and caution are evident in her questioning of Meria’s intentions and true nature. Despite these doubts, Serruria demonstrates loyalty and a supportive nature by assisting Meria with her research and ultimately using her failed experiment to save her friend.
Her resilience and determination are highlighted by her continued efforts and assistance even after her dismissal from the Academy. These traits collectively paint a picture of Serruria as a thoughtful and careful individual who values loyalty and perseverance.
Meria - Serruria was insecure towards Meria but she cherishes her eventually.
Chapter 1 |
---|
"Serruriaaa, save meee~!!" The bright, cheerful voice booming across the lab didn't sound at all like the cry of someone in dire need of assistance. But, just in case, I still whirled around to check for myself. "What is it now, Meria?" "Ahhhh, these marshmallowy cheeks of yours send me straight to the pearly gates of heaven~! I can just feel my world-weary soul takin' flight~!" She rubbed her cheek against mine while professing some nonsense beyond my, or any rational human being's, comprehension. I stood aghast at her illogical-as-ever exclamations. But, knowing that despite her baffling behavior, she was still the greatest intellect this country had ever known left an even worse taste in my mouth. "So, what do you want? You're interrupting my research." "I see you're bein' extra icy today~ Well, y'see, I just made this new discovery—" From there, she prattled off about what she'd found, but her explanation was almost too difficult even for me to follow... This girl is a genius in the truest sense of the word. Unlike me, who's just a complete failure... |
Chapter 2 |
---|
Everything started when I was placed in charge of a certain experiment at the Academy. The Academy was expecting big things. It was the one thing I couldn't afford to mess up. But, my new medicinemade to accelerate plant growth did the exact opposite— it killed all the plants in the school. I desperately clung to the teacher as they tried to leave. “Please, just give me one more chance! I'll get it right this time for sure! I promise!" In place of a response, all I received in answer was the cold, booming slam of a closing door. Their decision was clear. My dismissal from the Academy was all but confirmed. Seeing me collapsed on the ground, tears pouring from my eyes, a lone girl reached out her hand to me. Lifting my head, I saw her break into a gentle smile. "Say, tell me. How do you feel right now?" Huh...? Who the hell does this girl think she is...? |
Chapter 3 |
---|
"Y'see, my whole life, I've just always been too smart to fail! So, how does it feel to fail at somethin'?" "Sure... Let me just kill you first!" Tackling the girl to the ground and climbing on top of her, I taught her exactly how it felt with my fists. "Obviously...it hurts...like hell! I put in all that time and effort... only to mess up...and lose everything...!!" Before I knew it, my clenched fists had lost their strength, tears raining down in their place. "This...is the only place I have... If the Academy throws me out... I'll have nowhere left to...!" As I lost the ability to move, the girl wrapped me in a warm embrace. "It'll be alright. You have an infinite future ahead of you. Just keep messin' up and startin' over as many times as it takes. One little failure isn't the end of the world." "...!" It's okay to fail. That was the first time I'd ever been told such a thing, so I found myself lifting my head without thinking. When I did, the girl let out an amused laugh. "If you're up for it, let's be friends." The fact that I'd felt saved for a moment by her sudden words would be the end of my luck, as the girl offering her friendship was none other than Meria. |
Chapter 4 |
---|
After the two of us waited out our temporary suspension from the Academy, I began assisting Meria with her research. Long ago, Derulla had once been on the verge of ruin. The cause remains a mystery to this day, and was the subject of Meria's research at the Academy. Proposing new theories, modifying lab equipment only to tear it apart right after, raising plants together... It hurts to admit, but the days I spent with Meria weren't just hectic, they were fun. Our research even includes classified government intel, but that doesn't seem to bother Meria, seeing as how she just leaves confidential documents out on her desk in broad daylight. Just as my eyes happened to glance across the contents of said documents, I found myself suddenly doing a double-take. Demon seed...transplantation...? The test subject is...Meria?! That very moment, I heard an explosion coming from the Academy's prohibited research facility, as an ominous-looking plant began to break forth from the building. |
Chapter 5 |
---|
"Meria...!" A giant bud began to surge from the research facility, spreading its viny tendrils across the campus. This level of rapid growth can't be possible with just the plant's power alone. Don't tell me that what once brought this country to the verge of ruin was...! If that's the case, then the only ones who can put a stop to this are the ones who researched its origins—Meria and I. I slowly relaxed my clenched fists. If Meria is inside of that bud, then... there's only one way to save her. Meria had that plant put inside her of her own volition. I don't know why she did such a thing... But, I won't let you go and die on me... without so much as considering how I feel...! |
Chapter 6 |
---|
"Meria... Our research is behind againbecause of you."I call out to the tightly knit petals of the bud, believing Meria to be inside. "As punishment, I'll have you sort 100,000 pollen spores out by hand, so you better get ready!" In response, I felt like I heard Meria's voice saying, "That'd be a real pain..." If she's still conscious in there, then... I glance down at what's in my hand once more. I have no proof that this will work. But— "Meria, you were the one who told me it's okay to fail, so take this...!" I threw the vial clenched in my fist as hard as I could—the vial of my failed experimental medicine that had killed every plant in the school... |
Chapter 7 |
---|
Bathed in my medicine, the foreboding bud's petals unfurled, a frail frame falling from its once twisted maw. Frantically reaching out my arms to catch her, the fallen girl weakly smiled up at me. "At least make it... 10,000..." "That won't do. If you miss even one spore, I'll have you start from scratch... Over and over again. As long as it takes!" "As long as it takes, huh...?" Why did you do such a stupid thing? I wanted to lecture her on a million things, but something else left my lips. "Welcome back...Meria." Nestled in my arms, Meria grinned back at me. "Awww, look who's got a cute side underneath all that ice! Hehehe~" Why do I like someone like this...? I shouldn't have saved her after all... |
Login 1 | Wh-What...? Did you need something...? |
---|---|
Login 2 | Mm...? ...So you finally decided to show up, huh? We can’t get back the time you’ve lost, but it’s not too late to turn things around, either. On that note, crack open your books so I can get you up to speed on all the studying you missed. |
Home 1 | When it comes to studying, one’s daily efforts are of utmost importance. If you skip even one day, it’ll take three just to catch up to where you left off. |
Home 2 | Meria, you’re interrupting my research. I’m getting ticked off, so take a step back, will you? I-I’m...not saying I hate you... Nrgh...! That doesn’t mean I like you, either! |
Home 3 | Do I want to become a researcher of things like artificial lifeforms, or magic that accelerates plant growth...? The possibility does intrigue me, but I’m not exactly the most proficient when it comes to conversing with others... At times like these, I almost envy Meria’s complete inability to feel any shame. |
Home 4 | According to Meria, my cheeks are just like marshmallows, so rubbing her cheeks against mine gives her a burst of renewed energy. As a rule, I would never put any stock into anything so obviously preposterous, but operating only on conjecture and supposition does go against the very ethos of what it means to be a researcher, and you do seem fatigued, Teacher. Based on the evidence, it could be said to be effective at relieving fatigue, so, that’s why, with me, you should, um... Urgh... No, forget I said anything... |
Home 5 | You must have it rough too, Teacher. With this many people around you, there must be at least one or two weirdos like Meria hassling you all the time... What?! You consider me one of those weirdos...?! You’re kidding, right...? |
Home 6 | Happy birthday. ...I’m not used to celebrating things like this, but I brushed up on how to throw a so-called “birthday party” from some reference materials I found. I replicated the aforementioned “birthday party” perfectly for you, so I hope you enjoy it. |
Home 7 | What’s Meria like, you ask? She’s loud, aggravating, and has zero respect for other people’s boundaries. She is a genius, but as a person, she lacks any admirable qualities, has less emotional intelligence than a sunflower, and is a complete and total nutjob. That’s who Meria is. |
Home 8 | Since my research concerns plants, taking care of flowers is just another part of the job. Flowers sure are nice, aren’t they? Unlike people, who ultimately just betray or make a fool out of you, flowers grow as beautifully as the time you put into them. Haha... Thinking that way just goes to show how bitter I am even down to my roots, huh...? |
Home 9 | Investigating the plant life that existed at the time these old relics were created is one part of my research. Having these ancient records from way, way before I was even born right before my eyes like this never feels any less strange, though. |
Home 10 | ...Why does Meria have to act so weird all the time? She’s always saying the nuttiest things, like that she has “better ideas” when she skips out on our research, or that hugging me “relieves her stress and makes her work go more smoothly”... I just don’t know what to do with her... What are you laughing at? It really does bug me, you know! |
Home 11 | It’s hard to believe, but...apparently Meria used to be an obedient, diligent student. Thanks to the influence of a certain someone, however, her personality changed to what it is now... I’d like to meet this mystery person and give them a piece of my mind! |
Home 12 | Even I want to fix this personality of mine... The reason I became like this probably lies in the lack of social interaction I had when I was younger, so I’m sure getting to be around such accomplished people as you and Meria can only be good for me... Or rather, I find the time I get to spend with you to be fairly enjoyable, so...if possible, um... Is it okay if I continue to stay by your side from now on as well, Teacher...? |
Awakening 1 | It’s like...there’s a warmth spreading through my chest... |
Awakening 2 | Why do both you and Meria care so much about someone like me? I...just don’t get it. |
Awakening 3 | Um... Thank you... I’m...happy you thought of me... |
Awakening 4 | This is the power of bonds...the caring power of the heart... I wonder if even someone like me has a heart like that buried somewhere... |
Awakening 5 | You can fail and succeed as many times as it takes. I didn’t get what she meant by that before, but now I’ve started to understand a little better. Failure isn’t the end of the world, it’s just a necessary step towards your next success. |
Awakening 6 | I don’t know why you’re going this far for me... But, I don’t hate it. In fact, I guess I would even say it feels nice... That’s because, Teacher, I...uh...u-um...t-trust you! Yeah, trust, that’s the right word... |
Victory | I never learned the art of combat in class, so I’m glad that went as well as it did. |
Defeat | That’s why I told you I haven’t learned this in school before... |
Skill 1 | This should yield perfect results. |
Skill 2 | It’ll be okay... I can do this... |
