When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
Azama's recommended IVs are +Def and -Atk. A boon in Def will further his ability to act as as a tank for physical attacks. His Atk stat is rather low by default so it is perfectly fine to have it as a dump stat, and by inheriting Savage Blow he can chip away at the enemies' HP with even more fixed damage.

By upgrading Pain+ in the Weapon Refinery, it is possible add an effect to prevent enemy counterattacks. This build is based around that upgrade and inheriting Fortress Def. Azama will deal splash damage to foes while using his high defense to act as a wall and simultaneously heal his allies.
Azama does not have any kind of exclusive weapon, so he can only equip regular weapons. If you do decide to refine his default weapon Pain+, we recommend the Dazzling Staff effect upgrade, which will prevent the foe from counterattacking. The precise weapon that works best with this hero varies depending on what build you give them, so be sure to see the Recommended Builds section.

Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Azama is a ranged magic attacker (range = 2). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Res stat, if he has Wrathful Staff equipped. Also, he has skills that deal fixed damaged to foes and their surrounding allies, as well as debuffs to their Atk.
Azama's weapon skill Pain+ will deal 10 damage to foes, regardless of their Def and Res. In addition, it will deal fixed damage to nearby foes as well, so you can increase the amount by inheriting Savage Blow. This skill is also super useful for weakening foes when you are trying to level up another unit.
Azama's decently high HP and Def are comparable to that of a physical attacker. Therefore, you can use his Def to situate him as a physical wall, and then restore a ton of HP to allies after his HP has decreased. This is a particular strength of Azama not available to many other staff units.
Azama's Atk stat is pretty low, so you cannot anticipate much form him in the way of battle. Additionally, since Martyr's healing ability is based off of his Atk stat, he will not be able to restore much HP to allies until he has taken some significiant damage of his own.
His speed stat is nothing special, so it is easy for his foes to win a follow-up attack. In order to keep him standing even if he takes a follow-up attack, you will need to give him skills to increase his Def.

Ah, it is you! I should have known from the ever-busy pitter-pat of your footsteps. You must have far too much free time on your hands if you’re always spending it with me. Why, who am I to deserve it? I’m just a holy man, not worth even the time of day. Now, speaking of free time, do you plan to ever free me of my time here with you? I mean, of course, final release. The good-bye. The farewell. The ta-ta and toodle-oo! I shouldn’t let myself be troubled by the idea that we’d be separated. But I’ve grown fond of you. I’d like to give you more of my time, not less. So please, don’t give me any of that sort of free time—not for years and years. All right? |
