The best ending requires players to obtain the Mythal's Essence item from completing the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest. Players will have to convince or fight Mythal during the quest to obtain the item.
How to Convince Mythal: All Mythal Answers
The best ending also has an alternate version that requires players to convince the Inquisitor to reunite with Solas. To do this, the Inquisitor must have been in a romantic relationship with Solas in their Past Adventures.
The Last Gambit Quest will present three more choices that require the player to send a companion to do. They can either succeed or fail, depending on if they are a Hero of the Veilguard, as well as Rook's Faction Strength.
As of writing, the following companions are confirmed to succeed if they are a Hero of the Veilguard, and if Rook has 3 Star Strength with the factions:
There is one more choice that appears during The Dread Wolf Rises quest. If the Hero of the Veilguard and Faction Strength conditions have been met, both Davrin and Taash are confirmed to succeed and survive.

There are five Dragon Age: The Veilguard endings that players can experience, and are affected by the following:
This ending requires getting Mythal's Essence from the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest. This unlocks a third option in the final decision point, allowing you to convince Solas to willingly bind himself to the Veil.
To obtain Mythal's Essence, players will need to do the following:
Regrets of the Dread Wolf Quest Guide
There is an Alternate Best Ending where Solas and the Inquisitor join the Fade together, ultimately redeeming him. In addition to obtaining Mythal's Essence, players will also need to fulfill the following for this ending:
The good endings present Rook with the choices to either fight Solas or to trick him. Deciding to trick him with the fake dagger will cause Solas to take it, then be hit with the backlash of the Veil. This allows Rook to successfully bind him to it.
To obtain this choice at the final prompt, players need to have the following:
If you choose to fight and your companions are Heroes of the Veilguard, they will survive this encounter, leaving Solas bound to the Veil alone. Otherwise, fighting him with unprepared companions will lead to the bad ending.
Note that this choice can have two outcomes:
This ending has Rook lose all their companions during the final act as they are forced to fight Solas. It ends with Rook spilling their blood and Solas' on the Lyrium Dagger, binding both of them to the Veil.
This is the default ending if no choice is presented to the player during the final confrontation with Solas. You will default to this ending if:
How to Increase Faction Strength
The secret ending is a post-credits scene unlocked by getting the three Mysterious Circles before the point of no return.
It occurs in a post-credits scene, where an unidentified villainous existence will be revealed to have orchestrated the major events that has happened in the Dragon Age franchise. This includes the defeat of the three elven gods and Corypheus' actions in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Secret Ending and Mysterious Circle Locations
Finishing all of an ally's Companion quests will allow them to achieve the Hero of the Veilguard status, providing them with new perks, as well as a greater chance of surviving the final battle.
Increasing Faction Strength by accomplishing side quests for a given faction, and selling to them also improves their performance in the final battle, which affects what ending players obtain after the events of the last story quest.

Solas: Please, Rook. I do not wish to fight against you. | |

But I want to fight you. Fight Solas and bind him to the Veil. |
・Rook and their companions fight Solas to draw his blood with the dagger. ・Rook and their Companions subdue Solas and bind him to the Veil by force. ・Alternate Ending: Rook and their Companions sacrifice themselves, with Rook dragging Solas into the veil with them. |
Let's try this your way. Trick Solas with the fake dagger. |
・Solas takes the fake dagger, and uses it to manipulate the Veil. ・The plan backfires onto Solas, and he becomes incapacitated. ・Rook uses the real dagger to bind Solas to the Veil. |
(Requires Mythal's Essence) You don't have to do this. Use Mythal's Essence and convince Solas to stop. |
・The Inquisitor and Morrigan arrive to speak to Solas. ・Mythal, summoned by Morrigan, releases Solas from her service. ・Solas binds himself to the Veil willingly. ・Alternate Ending: The Inquisitor joins Solas, and both allow themselves to be bound to the Veil. |
Above is a list of all the choices and outcomes for fighting, tricking, and saving Solas. Note that players may not be presented with a choice if they have low Faction Strength and no Hero of the Veilguard Companions.
The third option that requires Mythal's Essence only appears if players have obtained the aforementioned item from the Regrets of the Dread Wolf quest.
