Symbols That Appear During Dialogue

Symbol Meaning
Branching The upcoming scene will change depending on the choice selected.
Thumbs Up Display an honest personality.
Mask Display a playful and humorous personality
Arms Crossed Display a tough and nonchalant personality.
Fist Display a cynical and spiteful personality.
Cautious Display a cautious and nervous personality.
Eye Display a sentimental and melancholic personality.
Question Mark Inquire for more information. Dialogue will not end when chosen.

Other than the branching path, dialogue choices often only displays Rook's personality as a way to immerse with the world. Dialogue will sometimes exhibit a callback from a previous exchange, reacting to the personality displayed during the conversation.

Branching paths have an immediate impact via Companion approval, where their affinity for Rook will change depending on the actions taken. Some choices have a lasting impact when made, such as altering a character's appearance, slow their progression, or decide the fate of a city.

In dragon age 2's Manuel that came in the game case, it said that the Star just designated a "special" option, something that was specific to the situation like if you had made a specific choice in the past or had someone specific in the party

But what does the star symbol mean, I got into a conversation with Neve and Bellara, after one of the crow missions, was a chat about cooking duties, and noped outa the conversation after pressing the star, is that some kind of matchmaking between characters?
