Can You Use Blood Magic in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

No, You Cannot Use Blood Magic

As of now, there have been no announcements or previews as to whether or not Blood Magic will make a return in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. To add to this, lead writer Patrick Weekes has stated that "Blood Magic is unlikely" to be added into the game in the future.

Why Is There No Blood Magic Specialization?

The art of Blood Magic is generally seen as evil in the eyes of many in the Dragon Age universe. As such, the writers of Dragon Age: The Veilguard have opted not to let a Mage Rook or the companions wield Blood Magic.

"It's just not a road we want the hero to walk right now", says lead writer Patrick Weekes, showing that Rook will likely be more of a force of good by not dabbiling in forbidden arts. He also states that Blood Magic is "the key to a lot of nasty stuff we aren't interested in having heroes do", further reinforcing this idea.

Blood Magic has been the most notorious and controversial school of magic in the Dragon Age universe. Blood Mages use their own life force, or other's blood, to cast their magic.

While Blood Magic can be used for good such as in healing or fighting Darkspawn, others use it for evil acts such as mind control and summoning demons. In the lands of Thedas, Blood Magic is widely illegal and its users are subject to harsh consequences if caught.

Blood Magic In Previous Dragon Age Titles

In Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II, the Hero of Ferelden and Hawke could opt to specialize as a Blood Mage provided they are a Mage, as well as companions who use the art or can learn it.

However, the art disappears completely in Dragon Age: Inquisition, as both the Inquisitor and their companions cannot learn or use Blood Magic. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is likely to be following in Inquisition's footsteps.
