Gate of Deep Sorrows Walkthrough

Locate the Blighted Cyst

Travel to the Crow's Road Rooftop in Treviso Canals and follow the waypoint until it leads you to a rooftop courtyard. There, you will find Venari Cultists surrounding a blighted cyst. After defeating the cultists, destroy the blighted cyst to spawn Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar'nan.

Defeat Desmal, Bloodbound to Elgar'nan

Fire	Necrotic

Desmal is a Collosal boss that is vulnerable to Burning, and resistant to Necrosis. Its attacks are mostly melee, with any ranged attack being telegraphed. You will need to defeat it to progress and complete this questline.

Collect the Champion Essence

After defeating Desmal, interact with its corpse to collect Champion Essence. This is a key item required to complete the quest.

Unlock the Gate of Deep Sorrows

Fast travel to the Converged City in the Crossroads and head northeast to find a path blocked by roots. Use the Champion Essence obtained from Desmal to unseal the gate and proceed.

Defeat Betrayal of Felassan

Weakness	Resistance
Necrotic	Cold

At the end of the path is an encounter against the hidden boss, Betrayal of Felassan. Have Emmrich and/or Lucanis in the party and use Necrotic Damage to exploit its weakness.

After defeating the boss, collect its Revenant Essence to progress The Heart of Corruption side quest.

Enhanced Normal Attack

Charge Attack

Desmal charges in a line, causing damage. Dodge sideways to avoid getting hit.

Normal Axe Attack

Desmal swings its axe three times while walking forward, staggering the player if they are hit. Dodge into these attacks or reposition away from Desmal if possible.

AOE Slam Attack

Desmal slams its axe into the ground, highlighting an area in red and detonating after a brief delay. This attack is linear, and can be dodged sideways.

Beam Attack

Desmal winds up and glows red before shooting a beam in a single direction. Dodge this attack, and use the opening to deal damage to Desmal.

Leap Attack

Desmal leaps onto the player, causing damage in the highlighted area. Use a combat roll to reposition out of the impact zone.

Tracking AOE Attack

Desmal begins channeling, after which the area under the player becomes highlighted. Reposition before the area detonates to avoid taking damage.

Enhanced Normal Attack

Desmal swings its axe wildly in place, dealing damage. This attack covers a wide, but small AOE. Move away from Desmal to avoid taking damage.

Gate of Deep Sorrows Rewards

Etheric Remnants

Defeating Desmal will award the player with Foul Leather, Etheric Remnants, Gold, and EXP. Upon completing the quest, the player will also receive +50 Faction Strength with the Grey Wardens.
