Send the Less Preferred Companion

Bellara and Neve Deciding Who Should Destroy the Ward

Unfortunately, the chosen character will be unavailable as a companion for the rest of the game's story until they are rescued at the end of The Last Gambit main quest. As such, players should consider the following points listed below.

All Companions and Their Information

Preferred Narrative and Character

Neve and Bellara Split Image

Players can choose which choice provides them with a better story experience. For example, some players may enjoy the narrative tension from losing one of these companions - prompting them to choose the companion they want to long for or rescue.

Oppositely, some players may prefer to have one of these companions be at their side throughout the story's end-game - ultimately making their choice based on the companion's likeability and character.

Final Romance Scene

Neve Final Romance Scene

If players have either Neve or Bellara as romantic partners, they may opt to avoid selecting them, as doing so prevents them from witnessing the final romance scene with them. If players are interested in seeing this scene, then they should send the non-romanced companion.

Team and Combat Synergy

Another relevant point of consideration is how much value each companion provides in combat and team synergy. As the game's end-game has difficult fights, players must ensure that they keep the companion that will prove more useful in fights, until they are eventually rescued.

Do note that for the most part, these two companions share similar skills and roles given that they are both mages. However, they do differ in terms of status affliction applies and elemental damage.

Bellara Combat Overview

Bellara Lutare

Bellara is a mage who deals shock damageapplies shocked, and staggers enemies. She can serve as a crowd controller with her Galvanized Tear ability, which groups enemies, and her Time Slow ability, which slows down enemies. Additionally, she can provide players healing with her Replenish Skill.

She can also apply the weakened status on enemies with her Enfeebling Shot skill and detonate sundered enemies with Fade Bolt skill, making her a good pair with warriors such as Taash or Davrin and Rogues like Harding.

Neve Combat Overview

Neve, on the other hand, is a mage who deals cold damage, applies chilled, and slows down enemies. She can also serve as a crowd controller since she can slow down enemies by applying the chilled affliction and using the Time Slow ability. She can also heal players with the Replenish ability, given that she does not become hardened.

Like Bellara, she can also apply the weakened status on enemies with her Glacial Pace ability and detonate sundered enemies with Icebreaker ability, making her a good pair with warriors such as Davrin or Taash and Rogues like Harding.

The Last Gambit Quest Implications

The Last Gambit Decisions

Since the sent companion cannot be used at the start of The Last Gambit main quest, players should also consider how the choice may affect their strategic planning. For example, if Neve is gone, they might have to send Lucanis to assassinate the mages to ensure companion survival.

If Bellara's missing, players may need to send Taash or Emmrich to destroy the magical wards. Ultimately, the choice will affect which companions do which tasks and which ones will be used to accompany Rook throughout most of the game's final moments.

・Neve disapproves
・Bellara becomes unavailable for the rest of the game
・Bellara cannot be chosen during the Last Gambit quest

Above is a summary of the outcomes and consequences of all choices.

Sending Neve

Neve getting kidnapped

Sending Neve to dismantle the magic wards will cause her to get kidnapped by Elgar'nan and become blighted, making her unavailable as a companion for the rest of the game. She will later be rescued at the end of The Last Gambit story quest.

With Neve missing, players won't be able to use her for task assignments at the start of the Last Gambit quest or witness their final romance scene if they've chosen to pursue her romantically. On a less significant note, sending Neve instead of Bellara also decreases the latter's approval of Rook.

Sending Bellara

Bellara Thinking of Ways to destroy the ward

Similarly, sending Bellara to dismantle the magic wards makes her unavailable as a companion for the rest of the game. She will only return later on when she gets rescued by the team during The Last Gambit main quest.

Given her absence, players won't be able to use her at the start of the previously mentioned quest or witness their final romance scene if they make her their exclusive partner. On a less important note, sending Bellara instead of Neve decreases the latter's approval.

Choice Does Not Affect the Ending

Choosing between the two companions will not affect the ending of the story. The ending to be acquired will heavily depend on the choices made during The Last Gambit quest, which does not specifically require either companions to be available.
