Dragon Age: The Veilguard's has several side content such as companion quests, faction quests, and side quests. They provide a lot of experience allowing Rook to level up and be more prepared for the boss fights that will be encountered during the campaign.
Killing enemies also provides experience. So, if you want to level up efficiently, make sure to kill all the enemies that spawn during quests and the ones you spot in the overworld!

The primary way to level up your companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is to do their companion quests. Completing companion quests also deepens Rook's bond with their companions, allowing Rook to romance one of them later on.
Companions also gain experience points through unique conversations with Rook and also the decisions you make throughout your playthrough of Dragon Age: The Veilguard!
List of All Playable Companions
The level cap in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is level 50. This means that Rook stops earning experience points after reaching level 50!
Do note that Rook earns a Skill Point whenever they level up and it can be used to progress a specific branch of their Skill Tree. Skill Points can be refunded at any time for free. Companions also have their own levels and each level gained grants them 2 Skill Points.
