Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the next big RPG, but is it open world? See how the game world's structure shapes up in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Is Dragon Age: The Veilguard an Open-World Game?

No, The World Will Be Mission-Based

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be a Mission-Based game. The game world will have structured paths with one level going into the next.

Game director Corinne Busche, in an interview with IGN, stated that the Mission-Based structure will allow areas to be more "hand-touched", "hand crafted", and "very highly curated".

Why Is There No Open-World?

Corinne Busche continues to add that a mission-based world will have "the best moment-to-moment experience", which the developer team sees as the best way to present a continuous action-packed narrative experience.

This is in line with what we've seen with the new combat systems for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with combat more active, dynamic, and flashy than any previous Dragon Age title.

Is The Gameplay Linear?

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will still have branching paths and optional areas within its mission-based level structure, together with distinct sidequests, as well as different choices and outcomes for the numerous interactions in the story.

Some quests can start in one area and have its objectives accomplished within other areas in the world, a number of them having different outcomes.

As the game progresses, areas will "open up" according to Corinne Busche, allowing for more exploration and content to be found. While it is not a massive open-world like Dragon Age: Inquisition was, Dragon Age: The Veilguard still has plenty to offer for players to enjoy.
