Chaos Zero Nightmare - Nebula Distortion Guide Top Banner

Nebula Distortion is a boss fight event that is part of the Forbidden Catalyst seasonal content in Chaos Zero Nightmare (CZN). Learn more about the Nebula Distortion event, its mechanics, how to beat the bosses and release date here!

How to Beat Nebula Distortion Bosses

Agony Ignores Damage Reduction Buffs

Agony is a debuff that inflicts fixed amount of damage to enemies per stack. This will ignore beneficial buffs such as Morale or passive effects from allies but will penetrate through damage reduction from the enemies. It is highly advised to use characters that inflicts a lot of Agony to deal a lot of damage to the bosses.

Increase Enemy Action Points to Delay Attacks

Cards such as Wanderer of the Void or Rally are great tools that can delay enemy attacks and help you buy a few turns to before the enemy starts hitting hard.

End The Fight Before Turn 6

Every Nebula Distortion bosses at max distortion will gain a massive damage boost after turn 6. Make sure to defeat the boss before you reach that point of the fight.

How to Beat Nebula Distortion Kentris 9/9

Ignore the Aqua Balls and Focus on Kentris

Aqua balls summoned by Kentris gives it 3 Morale per ball when it is present in the field. It can also provide shields to all enemies but it is best to ignore it because you want to finish the fight before it hits turn 6.

Kentris can only summon 3 aqua balls maximum. When Kentris uses a skill that summons more aqua balls when there is already 3 present in the field, it will not do anything essentially giving you a free turn.

Avoid Using Shield Characters Against Kentris

If you are aiming for 9/9 Kentris, distortion 2 reduces shield gain per stack. Characters such as Magna or Khalipe will be heavily nerfed in this boss fight, avoid bringing them in this fight.

How to Beat Nebula Distortion Family Head 9/9

Multiple Hit Attacks Reduces Hunger Stack Per Hit

Attacks that explicitly states that it will hit more than 1 will count as separate attacks even if it only came from one attack card. Make use of these cards first to shred Family Head's buffs in one attack.

Counterattack, Extra Attacks and Mark Cannot Reduce Hunger

Counterattack, Mark and Extra attacks such as Nia's decibel, Renoa's dirge bullets, Magna and Maribell's counterattacks and Selena's mark will not reduce Hunger stacks from Family Head.

Stack Fortitude to Significantly Reduce Multi Hit Damage

Family Head has quite a handful of multi hit attacks that can be reduced significantly by stacking a lot of Fortitude because it subtracts a flat percentage damage amount from enemy attacks based on stacks.

How to Beat Nebula Distortion Sweet Dream 9/9

Restart if You Have a Bad Hand on Turn 1

Unlike Kentris and Family Head, Sweet Dream essentially forces you to start a fight and each subsequent turns with only 3 cards in hand. This can make it harder for you to play important cards especially Initiation cards. To resolve this, you can restart the fight to make sure the boss will not take the card you will use.

Use Equipments That Can Draw Cards on Turn 1

To start a fight with 4 or more cards, you can use save data from your team with equipments that can draw cards at the start of the turn such as Rocket-Adorned Cape in Laboratory 0, Fragment of the Empty Void in The City of Mist and lastly Sphere of Randomness from a random equipment drop from the Deep Trauma exclusive enemy.

Remove Void Stacks to Force the Boss to Reapply It Next Turn

Sweet Dream will start the fight with a 7 stack void. Removing the stacks will make the boss reapply the buff in the next turn. If you managed to remove it in the same turn, the boss will be forced to reapply it again the next turn so it loops to never attacking you.

However, below 50% health it will apply 10 stacks of void so it will be harder to remove it but if your team can attack 10 times each turn you can still do the same strategy until it is dead.

Do Not Use Wanderer of the Void Card to Delay Its Buff Action

Even though it has a distortion effect that reduces the damage taken of the boss by 20% when it acts, you want to make sure that the boss does their action to reapply its Void effect so you can instantly reduce it down to 0 in the same turn.

Avoid using Wanderer of the Void that stops action count because it is better to ensure that the boss will not attack you because of the void loop strategy rather than take a massive amount of damage every turn and lose a card at the same time.

Stack Fortitude to Significantly Reduce Multi Hit Damage

Sweet Dream only consists of multi hit attacks that can be reduced significantly by stacking a lot of Fortitude because it subtracts a flat percentage damage amount from enemy attacks based on stacks.

Above 50% health, it will do 2-3 hits every attack and below 50% health, it will start doing 3-4 hit attacks making its attacks more potent the longer you prolong the fight.

Best Nebula Distortion Teams

Tressa, Cassius, Mika Triple 0 Agony Stacking

Core Team Cards and Epiphanies
Tressa
Unsheathe Dagger Curse Shadow Reload Vital Attack

Duplication Priority: Shadow Reload > Unsheathe Dagger > Curse
Cassius
Pop Eyed Popper Devil Dice Shuffle Dice Trick

Duplication Priority: Devil Dice > Dice Trick > Shuffle
Mika
Source of Water Blessing of Waves Tactical Analysis Whirlpool

Duplication Priority: Source of Water > Tactical Analysis

※ Hover over cards to see card effects.

The gameplan for this team is to inflict as much Agony as possible so Tressa's deck should have at least one Shadow Reload but more copies will make the fight easier. She also needs the Vital Attack epiphany that scales off of Agony stacks and Curse should have the 2 turn epiphany.

Cassius' deck must have the Pop Eyed Popper the epiphany that lets you choose what quest you want. Dice Trick with the quest completion epiphany or multiple copies of the 0-cost Devil Dice will make card cycling consistent. Mika should have cheap healing cards and her deck should be thin enough to cycle through it easily.

Once everything is good, every turn for this team usually goes like this:

  1. Make sure that Curse and Cursed Gouge is played before doing this.
  2. Use a healing card to create Shadow Daggers then use immediately.
  3. Once quest is complete, do not use Triple 0 and instead play the other quest cards.
  4. Check your hand to see if it goes beyond the hand size limit, use some Triple 0 to free some space.
  5. Go back to step 1 until there are no more cards to play.
  6. Unleash all the Triple 0 cards to deal massive damage and inflict more Agony stacks.
