The third biome you will need to explore in your viking adventure. This biome may require you to make a boat and travel the ocean to get to it. This biome will be more difficult than the last and will require you to go dungeon diving in order to find the resources you need! Read our guide below for a walkthrough and guide for the Swamp biome and beating the Bonemass!
Swamps are deadly biomes filled with poisonous creatures such as Blobs, Blob Elites and Leeches. It is recommended that you stock up on Poison Resistance Mead before venturing into these perilous places!
Currently, this particular biome is the only source of Ancient Bark and Scrap Iron in Valheim. Chains can also be obtained by hunting Wraiths within the Swamp at night. These nocturnal monsters can be seen hovering over abandoned buildings and large trees — Always keep an eye out when venturing the swamp at night!
The Swamp is also home to Valheim's third boss, Bonemass. Click the button below to know more:

There are stone towers found in the Swamp. These towers can sometimes contain Body piles that continously spawn Draugrs.
Ancient Bark | Obtained from Ancient Trees in the Swamp biome or from chests inside Sunken Crypts. |
---|---|
Guck | Harvested from trees in the Swamp biome using pickaxes or axes. |
Resin | Enemy Drop from Greydwarves or obtained by chopping trees. |
Scrap Iron | Mined from Muddy Scrap Piles in Crypt dungeons in Swamp biomes. |
Stone | Picked up from the ground or mined from rocks using a pickaxe. |
Thistle | Scattered around the world especially the Black Forest biome. |
Turnip Seeds | Obtained in the Swamp biome or planting Turnips using the Cultivator. |
Withered Bone | Can be mined from Muddy Scrap Piles in Sunken Crypts in the Swamp biome. |
Wood | Obtained by chopping trees or from picking up branches on the ground. |
Sunken Crypts are spooky dungeons that feature long hallways inhabited by monsters such as Draugrs, and Blobs. These particular dungeons are the only sources of Withered Bones and Scrap Iron in Valheim.
Unlock their entrances by using a Swamp Key obtained from The Elder. It's important to note that Swamp Keys do not disappear after unlocking a Sunken Crypt's entrance. This means you only need to use one key to unlock an unlimited number of Sunken Crypts!
Make sure to bring Pickaxes with you as well to destroy any Muddy Pile Scraps blocking your path!
