How to Split Stacks to Take One Item

This guide will show you how to split stacks in your inventory in the game Valheim. Learn how to sort your inventory more efficiently by separating item stacks stacks in Valheim so you can get the right amount of items you need!

How to Split Item Stacks

Step by Step Guide

1 Open your inventory (Tab) and choose an item stack to split.
2 Hold Shift then left-click the item stack.
3 Move the slider to left and right. Move it to the extreme left to take out one piece.
4 Click an empty slot in your inventory to move the split stack. You may also click anywhere outside the inventory window to drop the items on the ground.

To start splitting items, open your inventory by pressing Tab.

Hold Shift and Click the Stack

Hold Shift to Open Split Stack

You may split stacks by holding Shift and clicking a stack of an item. This will open up the Split Stack pop-up menu.

Move the Slider to the Left or Right

Move the slider from left to right to take a certain amount: leftmost to take the minimum count (1) and rightmost to take the maximum count.

Pick an Empty Slot

Pick an Empty Slot

Finally, pick an empty slot in your inventory to drop that split stack or you may click somewhere besides the inventory screen to drop the stack on the ground.

When To Split Stacks?

Deposit Items in Boxes

If you want to deposit a few items in a box, but keep the rest with you, most likely consummables, you can split stack and leave some in a box and leave the rest with you.

Give Items To Other Players From One Stack

If you have a stack of potions and you want to share it with your buddy, no better way to do so than to split stacks. This will allow you to share a few items without needing two stacks!
