Odin does not let his resources rot in Valheim!

Sadly, items do not despawn even if you leave it on the ground for several days. This could lead to a very messy environment if not controlled!

No Trash Option Either

There is also no trash option in the game so you can't get rid of your items in your inventory. Maybe Iron Gate will add it in a future update so stay tuned!

How To Throw Away Items Properly

Create a Garbage Pit

Do Items Despawn How to Throw Away Items - Garbage Pit

For efficient and proper disposal of trash, we recommend creating a deep garbage pit to throw your trash in. This is achieved by digging straight down using a Pickaxe until you reach bedrock!

We also suggest building this away from your base just so you save yourself from the dreadful FPS drop that these items may cause.

Use the Command 'removedrops'

If you do not mind cheating, you can access the console by pressing F5 then typing in devcommands to activate cheats. This will enable you to use the cheat removedrops which, as the name suggests, removes all the items dropped on the ground around your vicinity. We advise not having anything important lying around because the radius for this cheat is pretty big!

This is false, items do despawn. I lost a lot of boat materials thanks to this article being the first one that shows up on google, thanks :(

Ive been making a "Trash Can" Chest at my Docks, and dumping it in the ocean biome whenever i go out to sea, seems to work great so far
