At the start of the battle, this skill grants[Devotion]to Illya (cannot be dispelled).[Devotion]makes Illya substitutively take 20% of the damage taken by another ally (this damage counts as taking an attack). If an ally, including Illya, is attacked, and the total number of times an ally, including Illya, has taken attacks becomes 10 or more (for attacks that are dealt to multiple targets, each hit to an ally, including Illya, is counted), or if the number of allies other than Illya who are alive becomes 0, this skill’s[Devotion]is dispelled, and this skill grants[God’s Curse Unleashed]to Illya for 2 turns (cannot be dispelled). This skill activates only 1 time per battle (in consecutive battles that take place in Guild Battles and Grand Battles, this skill activates 1 time each battle).

Level 1 (Unlocks by Level 61)
When an ally, including Illya, is attacked, the damage to Illya from that same enemy’s 2nd attack and onwards in the same turn is cut by 30% (for attacks that are dealt to multiple targets at the same time, they are counted as 1 attack regardless of how many times they deal damage). When she takes damage that would reduce her HP to 0, she survives with 1 HP, and restores HP equal to 20% of her max HP to her. The effect that lets Illya survive with 1 HP activates only 1 time per battle.
Level 2 (Unlocks by level 141)
Additionally, at the start of the battle, grants 1 layer of[Multi-Barrier]to Illya (cannot be dispelled). If she takes damage, 1 barrier layer is depleted to nullify the damage.
Level 3 (Unlocks by level 221)
The damage from the enemy’s attack is cut by 70%.

Witch Illya combines tanky defenses with some supportive abilities and offensive bursts. Her skills focus on keeping her alive: she can cheat death once per battle, block damage with shields, and redirect damage to herself to protect allies. While not a pure support, she can still help the team. Offensively, she can unleash powerful attacks, especially against debuffed enemies. However, she relies on taking damage to activate buffs, which can be risky. Her support options are limited; most attacks focus on a single enemy.

Level 1 (Unlocks by default)
Increases Illya’s chance to hit by 50% for 1 turn, and deals 10 physical attacks equal to 140% of her ATK to the enemy directly in front of her. If this skill is used for the 3rd time and onward during battle, the consecutive attacks’ damage is multiplied by 3.
Level 2 (Unlocks by level 81)
Additionally, if the target is not defeated by this skill, dispels 1 buff from them, and deals 1 physical attack equal to 580% of Illya’s ATK to them.
Level 3 (Unlocks by level 161)
The initial consecutive attacks’ damage becomes equal to 180% of her ATK.

It unleashes a flurry of powerful attacks at higher levels, especially after repeated use. It can also dispel a buff from the enemy if they survive the initial onslaught. However, this skill focuses on a single enemy, making it less effective in crowded battles. The high damage potential also requires using the skill multiple times, and the decisive finishing move (at level 2) relies on the enemy being stubborn enough to survive the first wave of attacks.

[The Witch of God’s Curse] Illya Hard Counters

MementoMori - Sivi IconSivi

Her Fortifying Blade can unleash a powerful single-target attack, especially if she’s taken some punishment that turns. This can potentially overwhelm Witch Illya’s defenses. On top of that, both of Sivi’s skills can heal herself and her allies, which helps the team stay in the fight against Witch Illya’s attacks.

Life-Stealing Strike can also dispel debuffs at higher levels, which helps counter any buffs Witch Illya might try to apply. Even better, Sivi can buff her defenses and those of her allies to make them more resilient. While Life-Stealing Strike’s random targeting might hit unintended enemies, Sivi’s focus on single-target damage and her other strengths make her a capable counter to Witch Illya.

MementoMori - Asahi IconAsahi

Asahi’s damage peaks at half the turns Witch Illya needs, and by then, Asahi can focus fire. Asahi also has so much DEF that Witch Illya’s damage won’t do much without Cordie’s support.

This team has a good mix of offensive and defensive capabilities to counter Witch Illya. Cordie, Sivi, and Fenny can deal with high amounts of damage. At the same time, Merlyn can help remove Witch Illya’s buffs, and Gil’uial can prevent her from using her skills. Additionally, Merlyn’s and Sivi’s healing abilities can help the team sustain themselves throughout the fight.

This team can counter Witch Illya with a combination of high damage and survivability, but some tactical thinking is needed. Asahi and Iris significantly dish out heavy physical damage when buffed by Olivia. Lunalynn can silence Witch Illya to prevent her skills. At the same time, Mimi has a chance to redirect some of Witch Illya’s damage. Olivia buffs the team’s attack and provides temporary shielding. The key is to use Olivia’s buff before Asahi and Iris’s attacks, silence Witch Illya early with Lunalynn, and leverage Mimi’s debuff strategically.

Witches Not To Use Against [The Witch of God’s Curse] Illya

MementoMori - Freesia IconFreesia

Freesia can be a helpful supporter against Witch Illya, but she won’t directly shut down Witch Illya’s offense. Her Flowers of Eden skill can keep your team healthy, especially those targeted by Witch Illya’s critical hits. The defense buff at higher levels (Level 3 Flowers of Eden) makes them even more resilient. Freesia’s Rainbow Wind also provides a general damage reduction for the entire team.

However, Freesia’s main attack randomly targets enemies, so it’s unreliable for taking down Witch Illya. Additionally, she doesn’t have any abilities to weaken Witch Illya’s attacks or buffs.

MementoMori - Ophelia IconOphelia

Ophelia has some tools to fight Witch Illya. Her Crystal Tide can deal heavy damage and weaken Witch Illya’s attacks. Additionally, her survivability buffs can help her stay in the fight. However, Ophelia’s primary damage skill hits random enemies, and her crucial buff requires her to be above a certain health threshold. Since Witch Illya can burst down Ophelia quickly, this makes Ophelia an unreliable choice.

MementoMori - Nina IconNina

Nina can be a tricky character to use against Witch Illya. Her abilities are interesting - Lost Child’s Tears can potentially steal buffs Witch Illya uses and turn them against her. At the same time, I Hate You! can reflect debuffs back at Witch Illya if she has a lower DEX. On the defensive side, Nina’s I Can Still Walk and Shadow Tag make her more durable. However, these abilities all rely on some element of chance.

Lost Child’s Tears and I Hate You! target enemies randomly, so there’s no guarantee they’ll hit Witch Illya. Similarly, Nina’s buff-stealing and debuff-reflection depend on Witch Illya having buffs or having lower DEX than Nina, which might not always be the case. While Nina can be a real thorn in Witch Illya’s side if she gets lucky, her inconsistency makes her a bit risky as a main counter.

Tips for Beating [The Witch of God’s Curse] Illya

Get Characters Dispel Witch Illya’s Buffs

Find characters who have Buff Removal to dispel buffs that can prevent Witch Illya from gaining defensive benefits or offensive buffs. Silence to prevent Witch Illya from using her high-damaging Surge of Providence skill.

Bind to prevent Witch Illya from taking damage, which might stop her from triggering buffs reliant on taking hits. Decreased Damage Dealingcan reduce Witch Illya’s damage output and make her less threatening.

Use High Single-Target DPS

Use characters who can significantly damage a single target to quickly eliminate Witch Illya before she can activate her full potential. This is especially effective if they can bypass their defenses.
