What Are Basic Cards?
Cards With a Singular Function
Cards with a single function are classified as basic cards. Basic cards can only perform one of three functions: deal damage, heal, or provide a shield.

The effects of a basic card can be modified through upgrade cards or epiphanies. The strength of these modifications can vary from character to character, with some being easier to execute than others.
A good example of this is Rin's Strike of Darkness upgrade. On its own, it provides a flat damage boost. However, when combined with an Epiphany, it enables you to use all the basic cards in your hand, which significantly impacts your AP usage in a single turn.
Most Starting Cards are Basic Cards
Your opening hand on the first turn will typically consist mostly of Basic Cards because the majority of Basic Cards are also Starting Cards.
Keep this in mind when planning your team composition because it will determine which cards you should spend AP on during your first turn.
