    It really needs to be mentioned in the Walkthrough that Annette can be spared, though she can't be recruited. If you use the Secret Passage to approach Dominic, Annette will appear early. While fighting her, Gustave will defend her and force her to flee before she's killed. In the next chapter, Mercedes will be happy that Annette survived.
