Increasing an ally's morale lets them deal more damage to enemies in battle. This comes in handy, especially if you are dealing with tough enemy captains in a story quest.

Morale goes down to one tier if an ally's HP reaches zero

If one of your allies' HP reaches zero in battle, their morale goes down to one tier. Note that this only applies when playing in Casual Mode, as playing in Classic Mode replaces this with permadeath of allies.
