Different Methods to Recruit Characters |
---|
|
In each chapter of the main quest, you have the option to select which strategies you can use in the Battle Prep screen. One of these includes the option to recruit characters from other houses using the Persuade Strategy.
Choosing this consumes strategy resources, so be sure to complete all the side quests in the chapter in order to use all the Persuade Strategies before the main quest.
After selecting the strategy and starting the battle, you'll have to wait until the recruitable character appears in a stronghold.
Before battling the character, wait for the Persuade Strategy to appear on the left corner of the screen and hold the Right D-Pad to activate it. Defeat the character to successfully recruit them at the end of the chapter.
Note that some recruitable characters require a specific character in the field to persuade them. One example is Mercedes, which requires Jeritza to be present in battle to be successfully recruited.
Byleth requires a different strategy to recruit them to your party. In all routes, you must ignore the side mission to defeat Byleth as this permanently locks you out of recruiting them and access to two extra chapters. Focus on completing the main objective of the battle in order to recruit them at the end of the chapter.
At the end of the game, players will be able to recruit certain characters unavailable for your first playthrough in exchange for Renown. Inspect the journal at the Personal Quarters in the camp and choose Spend Renown.
Rhea | Sothis | Arval |
These characters cost 60 Renown each, and since you can only get the currency from completing main missions and from volunteering at the Camp, you might have to play through the game more than once to farm renown if you want to unlock them all.

Strategy resources can be obtained by capturing regions. The more regions you capture, the more strategy you can deploy that allows you to recruit more characters to your side.
Additionally, you also obtain more strategies to your arsenal as a reward for seizing regions.
