Recruit Byleth and Complete the Game

In order to recruit Arval, you will need to complete the game on any difficulty after successfully recruiting Byleth. Byleth is a missable character, so if you fail to recruit Byleth, you will also not be able to recruit Arval on that playthrough.

Purchase from Your Quarters for 60 Renown

After completing the game, you'll be able to purchase Arval, as well as Sothis and Rhea, from Your Quarters in the Camp for 60 Renown. Be sure to save up your Renown in advance, as the amount of Renown you can gain is limited by chapter.

Note that this isn't retroactively available in previous save files, so you'll need to either purchase Arval in your end-game save file or in a New Game Plus file created based on the end-game save where you unlocked Arval.

Gender Depends on Shez

While Arval is portrayed to be gender neutral for most of the game, the class and gender of your Arval will depend on Shez.

A Female Shez will gain access to a Female Arval, with the Gremory Class. A Male Shez will unlock a Male Arval with the Dark Bishop Class.

Arval Innate Abilities

Arval has to master the Wyvern Lord class to get the Domineer innate ability.

Innate Abilities are secret abilities not listed among the acquired abilities, and can only be attained by branching out of a unit's recommended class.

Tips on Using Arval

Pros	Unique Action and Support Abilities deal extra damage on top of normal attacks.
Cons	Monk class tree is locked depending on the gender of Shez. Only playable post-game and in Record Keeper missions.

Arval Combos and Unique Abilities

Gremory Class Action

	Cast a powerful spell from the sky that volleys enemies in the air and deals a significant amount of damage.

Hold X to attack in a wide range in front of you. Specify the range with the Left Stick. The Class Gauge will charge over time and when landing strong attacks. Press and hold X during a strong attack to add the element of that strong attack to the next class action.

Gremory Combo List

	Throw enemies into the air with a tornado after a regular attack.
	After two regular attacks, use magic to create a spread out ice attack.
	Release a powerful beam down to the enemies in front of the caster to push them away after a series of regular attacks.
	Summon an exploding flame spell that targets enemies surrounding the caster after some regular attacks.
	Release a series of magic spells, and finish with a powerful lightning attack that stuns a large area of enemies in front of the caster.
	Unleash a series of magic spells and cast a powerful force field that deals damage to a large area surrounding the caster.
Spam	A combination of spells thrown at different directions, followed by two waves of magic on either side of the caster.

Dark Bishop Class Action

	Creates a puddle of dark magic.

Hold X to unleash Dark Miasma to the surrounding area. Enemies touched by Dark Miasma will be temporarily paralyzed. The Class Gauge will fill over time.

Dark Bishop Combo List

	Create a pillar of ice that knocks enemies in the air.
	Create a series of lightning strikes in front of you.
	Create a dark orb above you that explodes after a short time, knocking enemies away.
	Summon a pillar of fire that lasts for a long time.
	Create a whirlwind that sucks enemies inside of it.
	Cast a spell that creates an explosion of dark magic in an area.
Spam	Create a magical spike that knocks enemies away after performing a series of attacks.

Who is Arval?

Sothis' Counterpart

Arval is Sothis' counterpart in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. They are a mysterious being that guides Shez throughout the game. Just like Sothis, Arval does not remember a lot about their past and can only talk with Shez in their mind.

Arval has red eyes and dons white clothing with red highlights.

Partners in Destiny

I'm the closest ally you have. Remember, we're partners in destiny.

Arval mentioned that they and Shez are partners in destiny. They're Shez's guide throughout the game, lending them powers to take on strong foes. Just like Sothis, Arval is on a mission and they need Shez's help for it to come to fruition.

Those Who Slither In the Dark

It is revealed in the Secret Chapters that Arval was actually created as a means for Epimenides to enact his revenge. He had thought all was lost, but Arval had survived against all odds. Though Arval was created in his image, they still have their own personality.

It is with Shez's body that Epimenides attempts to take Byleth down. He was eventually stopped by Byleth, Claude, Edelgard, and Dimitri.
