I've been trying to crutch on lifeforce since it basically doubles damage for combat arts and found that Balthus does not learn life force even after mastering mage class. (Maybe because it would be broken with his design. Hopefully it is a bug.) I have been looking around and haven't seen any mention of this anywhere.
