Raw Materials require certain Tools in order to be gathered in the open world. You'll need craft these tools early on and eventually upgrade them to be able to gather more materials.

After obtaining the needed tools, proceed to the gathering spot you'll be harvesting. Once there, simply maneuver your ship close to the resource and an interact prompt will appear. This will take you to play a mini-game wherein you have to time the bar correctly to get materials.

Incase an interact prompt does not appear, it simply means that another player has already harvested the resources before you.

You can also choose by pass the gathering mini-game by turning on Auto-Harvest in the settings. Only note that although this will allow you to harvest effortlessly, it will take longer and you'll get less resources.

Resource Respawn Time

Skull and Bones Gathering Wood
Based on our testing, we can confirm that resources do respawn after a bit, but we have yet to determine the exact amount of time. We recommend roaming around and looking for other resource spots to gather, as the respawn can take some time.

Alternatively, you can try quitting to the main menu and logging back in to the game in the hopes that you'll be transferred to another server where the resources have not yet been taken.
