Note: You don't need to go down to your ship to gather materials. If a prompt doesn't appear as you get closer, it may mean that another player has already gathered the materials. |
All metals like Copper need a Pickaxe tool to be obtained, craftable through the Carpenter.
A Pickaxe I is enough to harvest Copper. To craft a Pickaxe I, you'll need 2 Torn Sail and 1 Broken Plank.
Travel to one of the gathering spots you can find in your map. Open a Blueprint or Quest that involves it or find its entry in the Codex, then press the corresponding Track button to find the Copper spots.
Once you've arrived in one of these locations, simply approach the area of interest, find the sparkling spots beside the cliffs that indicate the ore, click on the harvest prompt, and complete the mini-game that will appear.
You can turn on the Auto Harvest feature in the settings menu to harvest resources without playing the mini-game. Although this is easier, you'll harvest longer and get fewer resources per node.
Best Settings
There are a couple of Copper nodes near each other south of the Sacred Tree Outpost, which is located in the Rova Hill region under the Red Isle. This region is located west of the Sainte-Anne pirate den.
Interactive Map and Points of Interest
If you've arrived at an ore location indication on the map, check if there are any sparkling spots on the cliffs within the area; sometimes the ore nodes don't exactly line up with the map spot.
If you can't find any sparkling spots nearby, it's likely that the resource was already gathered by another player. It's best to just go on to another location or come back in a bit later.
You can also try quitting to the main menu and starting the game again. This logs you into another server, and there's a good chance that the resource is available there.
