There is no notable difference in terms of gameplay mechanics when the game cycles between day and night.

The only thing that it affects is how the environment and lighting looks like when sailing the seas during daylight and nighttime. You might be able to see items floating on the water a lot better during the day, as nighttime, especially stormy nights, may hinder your vision.

A Ghost Ship Appears at Night

Skull and Bones - Ghost Ship

The Ghost Ship, also known as Maangodin, is a world boss that only appears at night. You can find it in open waters southeast of The Oubliette in the southwestern section of Port l'Hermine.

You can unlock this world boss by completing Oceans Apart side contract after reaching Ship Rank 5.

Each Cycle Lasts 30 Real Life Minutes

Skull and Bones - Daytime

Each Day and Night cycle will last for 30 minutes, about half an hour in real life for a cycle to end, and one hour for a whole day to pass in Skull and Bones.

Not Possible to Change Time

Skull and Bones - Different Time of Day

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the time of day through the settings menu in Skull and Bones. Players will have to begin at the current time of the day in the game world they joined in.

Switch Game Worlds to Get a Different Time of Day

Alternatively, you can keep joining different game sessions until you get the time of day you wish to play in. You can switch game worlds by exiting back to the main menu and hopping back in the game to join a random server.
