How to Unlock Investigations

Bribe Pirates to Unlock Investigations

Skull and Bones - Bribing Pirates
As of the open beta, Investigations can be unlocked by Bribing Pirates around Pirate Dens and Outposts.

Look for NPCs with purple eye icons on top of them. This signifies that they can be bribed with currency such as Silver or Gold. Once bribed, an investigation will pop up in your Journal.

Check For Clues In Your Journal

Skull and Bones - Investigations Codex
Clues for your investigation can be checked inside your Journal. This tab unlocks once you've discovered your first investigation in the game. Any investigation can trigger this.

The clues themselves serve as the "quest objectives" of the investigation. Some are straightforward and tell you directly where the next step of the investigation is, while others provide riddles that you must solve in order to progress.

Investigation Rewards

Loot and Resources

Skull and Bones - Hostile Ships
Loot and Resources are up for grabs as you uncover the clues of your investigation. These quests tend to take you towards multiple locations, with some even occupied by hostile ships. Take advantage of the journey and grab anything you can get your hands on!

It is also important to note Investigations can also lead you towards other Side Contracts and World Events along the way, which also yield rewards upon completion.
