How to Harvest Hides

Acquire a Hunting Spear Tool Hunt for Wildlife
Note: You can only use the Hunting Spear while sailing with the Dhow. If you decide to use other ship weapons, such as cannons, you'll obtain a scrap version of the hide.

Acquire a Hunting Spear

In order to obtain Hides, you would need to get a Hunting Spear. Luckily, you'll be able to obtain this tool for free during the A Pirate's Deal Contract, which is the first Contract of the game. Note that you can only use the Hunting Spear while sailing with the Dhow.

Later on, you'd want to upgrade your Hunting Spear to get tougher hides from tougher animals. You can upgrade this tool by visiting the Carpenter in Sainte-Anne.

Hunt for Wildlife

Hides can be obtained through specific wildlife found in the open world. You may refer to your Map to identify particular spots where you can spot them, but you can also find them randomly roaming around.

Once you have identified your target, hold the aim button and shoot at the animal you're hunting. You may hold the shoot button to charge and release a more powerful throw.

Keep in mind that you can only obtain animal hides by using the Hunting Spear. If you use a different ship weapon, such as a cannon, you'll be left with a scrap hide.

How to Get Refined Hides

Craft In the Refinery

Refined Hides are higher-quality hide materials that allow you to craft better items and ship parts. These Refined Hides can be crafted using a number of related Raw Hides through the Refinery.
