Break Effect is a character stat in Honkai: Star Rail. See what Break Effect does, what are its advantages and disadvantages, and examples of teams for it in this guide!
Break Effect is a stat that affects things that are related to Weakness Break. This includes the initial Weakness Break damage, DoT debuff damage, and how far enemy actions are delayed.
Do note that Break Effect only affects the DoT inflicted via Weakness Break and not through a character's kit.
Break DMG happens when an enemy is attacked and enters the Weakness Broken state. Break DMG can be increased through the Break Effect stat.
Some characters like Firefly and Boothill can deal Break DMG when they attack an enemy in a Weakness Broken state.
Super Break is a special kind of Break DMG that scales off your Break Effect and can increase depending on how much Toughness damage you can deal. Super Break DMG can only occur on an enemy that is already Weakness Broken.
Elements | Weakness Break Effects |
---|---|
Physical | ・On Weakness Break, applies Bleed, which deals continuous Physical DMG. |
Fire | ・On Weakness Break, applies Burn, which deals continuous Fire DMG. |
Ice | ・On Weakness Break, applies Freeze, which stops the enemy from acting and deals additional Ice DMG. |
Lightning | ・On Weakness Break, applies Shock, which deals continuous Lightning DMG. |
Wind | ・On Weakness Break, applies Wind Shear, which deals continuous Wind DMG. |
Imaginary | ・On Weakness Break, applies Imprisonment, which slows down enemies and delays their turn. |
Quantum | ・On Weakness Break, applies Entanglement, which delays enemies' actions and deals additional Quantum DMG at the start of the next turn. This DMG is increased when they are hit. |
Break Effect also affects the potency of the Weakness Break effect of the different Elements, with each element having its own unique effect. These can range from increased damage for DoTs or longer slows depending on the effect.
Break Efficiency is a term used to describe how efficient a character's Skill, Talent or Ultimate is at breaking Toughness. Characters with Skills or Ultimates that have a lot of hits often break Toughness easier.
Break Effect does not affect Break Efficiency, so even if you build it on certain characters they will still break Toughness at the same rate as before.
Break Effect characters do not require Critical Hits to deal damage. This means you don't need to adjust your characters' CRIT Ratio and focus on purely the Break Effect stat for DMG.
The one main Weakness of Break Effect characters is that the enemy has to be Weakness Broken to deal a lot of damage.
When an enemy is not Weakness Broken, Break effect characters will deal significantly less damage.
Break Effect units may struggle against enemies that can disable their own weaknesses such as the Shape Shifter and the Sweet Gorillla.

---|---|---|---|
March 7th (Imaginary) | Trailblazer (Imaginary) | Asta | Lynx |
This free-to-play team uses the Imaginary versions of March 7th and the Trailblazer. Use the Trailblazer's Ultimate to enable all units to deal Super Break DMG.
Asta is a great Support here as she not only provides buffs, but she can also deal a lot of Toughness DMG, which in turn can help deal a lot of Super Break DMG.

---|---|---|---|
Firefly | Trailblazer (Imaginary) | Ruan Mei | Gallagher |
A Firefly team is one of the best examples of a strong Break Effect team. Firefly would want the Harmony Trailblazer on the same team to deal a massive amount of Super Break DMG.
Ruan Mei is one of the best supports for Break Effect teams since she increases Break Efficiency and Break Effect.

---|---|---|---|
Boothill | Bronya | Ruan Mei | Gallagher |
Another variation of a Break Effect team is to use Boothill to annihilate the enemy's Toughness bar. Use Bronya to provide extra turns to Boothill, so the latter can inflict Weakness Break on the enemy as soon as possible.
Once the enemy is Weakness Broken, Boothill can use his Enhanced Basic Attack to deal a lot of Break damage to a single target.
