Check out whether or not Honkai: Star Rail is considered an open world game like Genshin Impact in this guide!
List of Contents
Despite being able to freely explore different worlds, Honkai: Star Rail is not an open world game. It is more of a turn-based RPG that follows a linear story path.
While you can explore the worlds and cities by running around, most areas cannot be viewed or entered in multiple ways. Most areas have invisible walls and a lot of places with doors cannot be entered.
Outside of teleportation, Honkai: Star Rail doesn't have the usual exploration mechanics such as jumping, climbing, or swimming.
Most open world games do not enter loading screens in-game when entering another area. Typically, generated in real time. Some exceptions include teleporting to another area or waiting for a game cutscene.
When entering another world or area in Honkai: Star Rail, players will always go through loading screens.
Most areas require players to progress through the game's story via Trailblaze Missions and there aren't other means to access locked areas. Actions done by players more often than not, do not affect the environment or alter the game's main story.
While both games play almost similarly in their overworlds, Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact are two different kinds of games.
Honkai: Star Rail is more of a turn-based combat action game while Genshin Impact functions as an open-world game with real time combat.
