Honkai Star Rail - The Pity System Explained
The Pity System is a Gacha feature in Honkai: Star Rail. See how the Pity System works, what soft and hard pity is, how to count pity, if pity carries over, and when it resets!

Honkai: Star Rail Pity System

What is the Pity System?

Honkai Star Rail - What is the Pity System
The pity system refers to the number of pulls or warps you need to do on a banner before you're guaranteed to get a 4-star or 5-star. However, you can get a 4-star or 5-star before even reaching that number.

How does the Pity System Work?

Banner 4-Star 5-Star
Character Event Warp 10 Pulls 90 Pulls
Light Cone Event Warp 10 Pulls 80 Pulls
Regular Warp 10 Pulls 90 Pulls
Starter Warp 10 Pulls 50 Pulls

With the pity system, if you pull 9 times in a banner and don't get a 4-star or 5-star, your 10th pull guarantees a 4-star or above.

The same goes for the 5-star pity. For example, if by your 89th pull in a Character Event Warp banner, you still have yet to receive a 5-star character, your next pull is guaranteed to be a 5-star.

It is worth mentioning that the Regular Warp is the only banner that contains both 5-star characters and Light Cones!

Is there a Soft Pity?

Soft Pity is a Hidden Mechanic

Honkai Star Rail - Soft Pity is a Hidden Mechanic

Soft pity can be considered as a hidden mechanic since it's not officially confirmed by HoYoverse. However, it is generally believed that the rate of obtaining a 5-star character increases as you get closer to your 89th pull (79th for the Light Cone banner).

What is Hard Pity?

Hard Pity refers to the exact number of pulls needed to guarantee a 5-star drop. The number of pulls to secure a 5-star differs per banner and it can be viewed by selecting View Details button on a banner.

How to Check the Pity Counter

Track Pity with the Records Tab

How to Teleport
1
On the Warp menu, click the View Details button.
2
Click the Records tab to view your pulls for the past 6 months.
3
Go to the page where you last pulled a 4-star or 5-star then start counting from there.

The only way to track your pity is by manually counting the number of pulls you've already done since the last time you pulled a 4-star or 5-star.

Pity Counter is Separate

Honkai Star Rail - Pity Counter is Separate
The warp counter is separate for the 4 banner types. It resets when you get a 4-star or a 5-star.

Note that pulling a 4-star won't reset your counter for a 5-star. However, pulling a 5-star will reset the counter for both rarities!

Does Pity Carry Over?

Pity Carries Over to the Next Banner

Honkai Star Rail - Pity Carries Over to the Next Banner

When an Event Warp banner ends, the counter will carry over to the next banner of the same type. For example, after the current phase of Brilliant Fixation ends, your pity carries over to the next Light Cone Event Warp!

All Upcoming Warp Banners

50-50 Count Carries Over

Honkai Star Rail - 50-50 Count Carries Over
If you lose the 50-50 on a banner and didn't get the guaranteed 5-star when it ended, you will surely get it on the next banner. Note that the only way to track this is to check if the last 5-star you pulled is featured or not on the Records tab!

What Are the Gacha Pull Rates?

Base Pull Rate for All Banners

Banner 4-Star Pull Rate 5-Star Pull Rate
Character Event Warp 5.1% 0.6%
Light Cone Event Warp 6.6% 0.8%
Regular Warp 5.1% 0.6%
Starter Warp 5.1% 0.6%

For the highest rarity of 5-stars, the percentage of pulling a character or Light Cone is at 0.6% (0.8% for the Light Cone banner).

Percentage to Get Featured Drops

Banner Success Rate
Character Event Warp 50% chance to get featured characters
Light Cone Event Warp 75% chance to get featured Light Cones

When you get a 4-star or 5-star, there is a 50% chance (75% for the Light Cone banner) it will be a featured drop.

If you didn't receive any of the drop rate boosted entities, your next guaranteed 4-star or 5-star drop will be the featured character or Light Cone!

Pulling Multiple 5-Stars Within 10 Pulls

Honkai Star Rail - Pulling Multiple 5-Stars Within 10 Pulls
If you pull 10 times on a banner and receive multiple 5-star characters or Light Cones, the last 5-star you receive will determine if your next 5-star will have a 50% chance or be a guaranteed featured drop!

For example, in a single 10-roll, you get Jing Yuan (featured) and Himeko (permanent). If Jing Yuan appeared first followed by Himeko, your next 5-star will be the featured character. However, if you pull Himeko first followed by Jing Yuan, your next 5-star pull will have a 50% chance of being the featured character!

I'm not sure the math is correct on this charting. My pity is similar to Genshin's which sits at 70 pity until a guaranteed 5-star, tested on all banners minus Lunae as it wasn't pulled for. Do we have accumulated data to cross-reference from multiple account pulls, or is this data based off of a sole account?
