Speed Breakpoints are thresholds of the Speed stat in Honkai: Star Rail. See an explanation of Speed Breakpoints, a Speed Breakpoint Chart, and how to get more Speed here!
A cycle in Honkai: Star Rail is a predetermined number of turns where all characters and enemies can have their turn at least once. While a hidden mechanic for most content, cycles can be seen in time-sensitive modes like Forgotten Hall or Pure Fiction, at the bottom of the Action Order.
For these game modes, beating the stage in a certain amount of cycles fewer cycles allows you to hit all the objectives and get all the rewards of a stage. Because of this, there are some characters who you will want to act multiple times within a cycle.
Honkai: Star Rail determines turn order based on a number called Action Value. The closer the Action Value is to 0, the sooner a character will get their turn.
To lower a character's Action Value, you must increase their Speed. With all of this in mind, the higher the Speed stat of a character, the more turns they can have within a certain number of cycles!
Action Value can be viewed in combat by enabling it in the Settings Menu. When enabled, the Action Value will appear beside the character and enemy's sprites in the Action Order.
As mentioned before, a higher Speed stat leads to more turns in a certain amount of cycles. Speed Breakpoints are the certain number of Speed stats that have a significant influence on a character's turn order.
Established Speed Breakpoints also take into account the set effect requirements for certain Relics like the Space Sealing Station, which needs you to have at least 120 SPD to activate it's buff.
Speed Breakpoint | Merits |
---|---|
120 SPD | •Gives you 2 turns in the 2nd cycle (Total of 1 bonus turn within 5 cycles). |
134 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st and 4th cycle (Total of 2 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • Usually a stopping point for low investment characters |
143 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st and 3rd cycle (2 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • A direct upgrade to the 134 SPD breakpoint since you get the bonus turn 1 cycle earlier |
146 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th cycle (3 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • Usually the stopping point for mid investment characters |
156 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th cycle (3 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • A direct upgrade to the 146 SPD breakpoint since you get the bonus turn 1 cycle earlier if you reach the 4th cycle. |
160 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th cycle (3 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • Usually the stopping point for high investment characters. • Speed Breakpoints past this is usually considered a luxury since it either requires buffs from external sources or sacrifice significant substats. |
164 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th cycle (4 bonus turns within 5 cycles). |
172 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th cycle (4 bonus turns within 5 cycles). |
178 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cycle (4 bonus turns within 5 cycles). |
182 SPD | • 2 turns in all 5 cycles. |
200 SPD | • 3 turns in the first cycle and 2 turns in the four remaining cycles. |
Optimizing your characters' Speed stats only really matters when tackling Memory of Chaos since a stage requires a 10-cycle clear to get 3 stars.
For most DPS units, having 134 to 135 Speed to clear Memory of Chaos is ideal since it will give them 2 bonus turns within 5 cycles. Having Speed on a DPS does not sacrifice a lot of DMG since you usually just need Boots with a Speed main stat and roll some Speed Sub Stats.
Certain DPS like Clara do not want Speed because she benefits from going last.
The ideal Speed for Support highly depends on their kit. For example, a character like Tingyun needs to buff the team's Main DPS first using her Skill. With this, her Speed should be any number above the DPS'.
A notable example would be Bronya. She can have 1 Speed lower than the DPS to provide an extra turn as soon as they're done attacking or have the highest Speed possible so she can bring the DPS to the very top of the turn order.

Relics | Consumables | Abilities |
One way to increase a character's Speed is to have them equip a Speed-based Relic or Ornament sets.
Other than a Relic's set effect, a character can gain more Speed by acquiring a Speed Main or Sub stat. The only piece that can have a Speed Main Stat is the Feet-piece or Boots. You can also get Speed Sub Stats on any piece except for Boots that already have Speed as a Main Stat.
Relics and Planar Ornaments Guide
Items such as the Topological Acceleration Band can increase your characters' Speed when consumed before combat. Note that you cannot use these consumables inside the Forgotten Hall. But, you can use them in game modes like the Simulated Universe!
