Speed Breakpoints are thresholds of the Speed stat in Honkai: Star Rail. See an explanation of Speed Breakpoints, a Speed Breakpoint Chart, and how to get more Speed here!
A cycle in Honkai: Star Rail is a predetermined number of turns where all characters and enemies can have their turn at least once. While a hidden mechanic for most content, cycles can be seen in a Forgotten Hall stage, at the bottom of the Action Order.
In the Forgotten Hall, clearing the game mode in fewer cycles allows you to hit all the objectives and get all the rewards of a stage. With this, you want your characters to act multiple times within a cycle.
Honkai: Star Rail determines turn order based on a number called Action Value. The lower a character's Action Value, the faster they can act. When an Action Value of a character is low enough, they may have additional turns before a cycle ends.
To lower a character's Action Value, you must increase their Speed. With all of this in mind, the higher the Speed stat of a character, the more turns they can have within a certain number of cycles!
Action Value can be viewed in combat by enabling it in the Settings Menu. When enabled, the Action Value will appear beside the character and enemy's sprites in the Action Order.
As mentioned before, a higher Speed stat leads to more turns in a certain amount of cycles. Speed Breakpoints are the certain number of Speed stats that have a significant influence on a character's turn order.
Established Speed Breakpoints also take into account the set effect requirements of certain Relics like the Space Sealing Station requires a certain number of Speed for the effect to trigger.
Speed Breakpoint | Merits |
---|---|
121 SPD | • 2 turns in the 2nd cycle (1 bonus turn within 5 cycles). • Enables a Relic's set effect if it has a requirement of 120 SPD. |
134 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st cycle and 4th cycle (2 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • Enables a Relic's set effect if it has a requirement of 120 SPD. |
147 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st cycle, 3rd cycle and 5th cycle (3 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • Enables a Relic's set effect if it has a requirement of 120 or 145 SPD. |
156 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st cycle, 3rd cycle, and 4th cycle (3 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • Compared to the 147 SPD Breakpoint, having a 156 SPD will allow you to get the third 2-turn cycle in the 4th cycle. • Enables a Relic's set effect if it has a requirement of 120 or 145 SPD. |
164 SPD | • 2 turns in the 1st cycle, 2nd cycle, 4th cycle, and 5th cycle (4 bonus turns within 5 cycles). • Enables a Relic's set effect if it has a requirement of 120 or 145 SPD. |
Optimizing your characters' Speed stats only really matters when tackling Memory of Chaos since a stage requires a 10-cycle clear to get 3 stars.
Hence, you can only clear a half within 5 cycles. The chart above only includes the number of two-turn cycles a specific Speed stat can do within 5 cycles.
For most DPS units, having 134 to 135 Speed to clear Memory of Chaos is ideal since it will give them 2 bonus turns within 5 cycles. Having Speed on a DPS does not sacrifice a lot of DMG since you usually just need Boots with a Speed main stat and roll some Speed Sub Stats.
Certain DPS like Clara do not want Speed because she benefits from going last.
The ideal Speed for Support highly depends on their kit. For example, a character like Tingyun needs to buff the team's Main DPS first using her Skill. With this, her Speed should be any number above the DPS'.
A notable example would be Bronya. She can have 1 Speed lower than the DPS to provide an extra turn as soon as they're done attacking or have the highest Speed possible so she can bring the DPS to the very top of the turn order.

Relics | Consumables | Abilities |
Relic Set | Relic Set Effect |
---|---|
Messenger Traversing Hackerspace |
2-Pc: Increases SPD by 6%. 4-Pc: When the wearer uses their Ultimate on an ally, SPD for all allies increases by 12% for 1 turn(s). This effect cannot be stacked. |
Musketeer of Wild Wheat |
2-Pc: ATK increases by 12%. 4-Pc: The wearer's SPD increases by 6% and Basic ATK DMG increases by 10%. |
One way to increase a character's Speed is to have it equip a Speed-based Relic Set. The Relic Sets listed above can increase the wearer's Speed when meeting the set effect requirements.
Other than a Relic's set effect, a character can gain more Speed by acquiring a Speed Main or Sub stat. The only piece that can have a Speed Main Stat is the Feet-piece or Boots. You can also get Speed Sub Stats on any piece except for Boots that already have Speed as a Main Stat.

Another example of a character that has a Speed buff ability is Ruan Mei. Unlike Asta, Ruan Mei's Speed buff comes from her Talent and it affects all of her allies except for herself. The Speed buff is active throughout the whole fight.
