Reaper Warrior | Emmrich | Lucanis |
Spellblade Mage | Taash | Lucanis |
Duelist Rogue | Emmrich | Lucanis |
These are currently the best teams for each class in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. While every class in the game is viable and powerful in their own right, these Specializations stand out either due to raw power, the ease of use, or both.
If you want to know more about why these are the best classes, check out our guide on the best classes and their specializations.
Best Classes and Specialization Tier List
Warrior Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Reaper | Emmrich | Lucanis |
A Reaper Warrior's team is primarily based around dealing Necrosis damage and improving this damage either through buffs, or having their companions shred Necrosis RES.
With that in mind, Emmrich and Lucanis are the best companions to pair with the Reaper, as they can heavily shred the Necrosis RES of enemies with the right tools and Ability Upgrades.
Warrior Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Champion | Harding | Neve |
For the Champion Warrior, Harding and Neve can support them from afar with their abilities and attacks, especially with their potential to trigger their status effects passively with the correct Ability Upgrades.
Neve in particular can help with AoE damage using her Blizzard after the Champion pulls their enemies in with Fade-Touched Bulwark.

Warrior Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Slayer | Harding | Neve |
Out of all three Warrior Specializations, the Slayer Warrior arguably needs the most status effect support from their companions as they will be constantly staggering opponents.
Harding functions more as a Supportive unit to keep the Slayer alive and buffed, while Neve is there to passively apply Weaken and supply her own damage.
Mage Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Spellblade | Taash | Lucanis |
A Spellblade Mage excels at raw magical damage as well as status effects all while staying within melee range, and benefits the most from companions that augment the damage from afflicted effects.
Taash and Lucanis shine in particular due to how well they respectively apply Burning and Shocked, with Lucanis also being able to apply Bleed to create a third semi-consistent effect in a fight.
Spellblade Build and Best Skills
Mage Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Death Caller | Harding | Davrin |
The Death Caller Mage spams Necrotic spells against opponents and applies consistent Necrosis DoT to enemies. As such, allies that can keep the Death Caller alive or buff them are favored.
Davrin is taken as the main tank and is responsible for soaking up aggro and pseudo-grouping up opponents for the Death Caller's abilities, while Harding helps to add Affliction stacks onto opponents for the Death Caller.
Death Caller Build and Best Skills
Mage Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Evoker | Neve | Lucanis |
The Evoker is the stereotypical mage archetype that specializes in long-ranged damaging spells, favoring Neve for her assistance towards the Frozen status and Lucanis for his Primer abilities.
As a general rule of thumb, the Evoker Mage wants anything that can buff their damage as Rook's main method of survivability is by deleting the opponents without coming in harm's way.
Rogue Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Duelist | Emmrich | Lucanis |
The Duelist Rogue excels at abusing Necrosis and Necrotic weapons to deal a mix of raw Necrotic damage, DoT, and burst damage against their opponents.
With that, using Emmrich and Lucanis for their own Necrotic damage and Necrotic shred is the way to go, as the overwhelming amount of Necrotic damage allows the team to mow down most content.
Rogue Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Veil Ranger | Bellara | Taash |
The Veil Ranger Rogue is the typical ranged rogue archetype that focuses on status effects like Shocked and general long-ranged sniping with their Bow.
With Veil Ranger being the main damage dealer, Bellara and Taash are welcome teammates due to Bellara's utility with Galvanized Tear and Time Slow, and Taash's aggro soak and Primer abilities.
Veil Ranger Build and Best Skills
Rogue Specialization | 1st Companion |
2nd Companion |
---|---|---|
Saboteur | Harding | Taash |
The Saboteur Rogue has a unique playstyle, relying on their abilities for a third-party source of damage to whittle enemies down from their many contraptions, while swapping between their ranged and melee arsenal to finish off foes.
Saboteur favors Harding for the Ability Upgrade that grants permanent Overwhelmed effects on opponents allowing the Saboteur to deal critical damage with abilities. Taash is also great for the aggro soak, and the initial Overwhelm application.
Saboteur Build and Best Skills
When first building your team, always make sure that they can synergize with either each other or with Rook in triggering either Overwhelmed, Sundered, or Weakened.
These primers, when detonated, apply a debuff to the main target and AoE damage to nearby targets, making them great for singling out high-priority targets, or just dealing with groups of enemies.
Companions have Abilities and Equipment that can help the team's damage, ranging from small buffs like cooldown reduction and improved ability durations all the way to resistance shreds and passive status applications.
Once you have taken Status Effect synergy into account, look to see which companions have Ability Upgrades or special Equipment that can help you deal more damage or improve their own.
While not as important as the previous two points, specializing your team in covering Rook's weak points can be the difference between a victory or a restart.
If struggling to stay alive, consider taking a companion solely for their heal or taunt abilities, or for abilities such as Time Slow and Adrenaline Rush that give Rook more chances to deal damage.
